Cricket World Cup 2019: Blackcaps' Martin Guptill in clear discomfort as Pakistan loom

The Blackcaps have played down concerns over a knee injury for opening batsman Martin Guptill.

The 32-year-old was seen limping off the team bus overnight and his fitness isn't the only worry for the team ahead of Wednesday's Cricket World Cup match against Pakistan at Edgbaston.

Knee heavily bandaged, Guptill was in clear in discomfort, as the Blackcaps arrived in Birmingham - a worrying sight for Kiwi cricket fans, but his teammates aren't concerned.

"As far as I know, Guppy is fine," Blackcaps fast bowler Lockie Ferguson told Newshub. "He was on the bus today, no drama, so he's all good."

That message backed up Blackcaps medical staff, who told Newshub Guptill would train on Tuesday (NZT) and was expected to overcome the injury he appeared to suffer just before Trent Boult took the catch that secured a thrilling win over the West Indies.

But the victory was somewhat soured, when the ICC fined the Blackcaps for a slow over-rate and the news could get a whole lot worse.

A repeat offence would earn a one-match suspension for skipper Kane Williamson, whose contribution with the bat has been vital for the Blackcaps at the World Cup and will be again, when they face a Pakistan side growing in confidence and demanding respect.
