BLACKCAPS 248/8 beat BANGLADESH 244 by two wickets

8:25am - That is all from us today. Thanks for tuning in. Stay tuned to Newshub for match reaction and also live updates throughout the remainder of the tournament in England and Wales.

8:23am - Here is Newshub's match report from the game, which the Blackcaps won.

8:17am - The win lifts the Blackcaps to the top of the standings for now.

Forty-eighth over - Mitchell Santner hits a four, and the match is over. New Zealand beat Bangladesh by two wickets. That was far from perfect, very scrappy, but they'll take the win and look ahead to their next match against Afghanistan.

Forty-seventh over - WICKET - Mohammad Saifuddin gets the wicket of Matt Henry. Clean bowled. Another wicket falls, and this still could go either way. Two wides give New Zealand more hope, and then Lockie Ferguson hits a four off the final ball of the over. Scores are tied now.

Forty-sixth over - Mashrafe Mortaza is moving his men around the field as they look for another wicket. Matt Henry finds a gap in the field, and he gets four runs. NZ need 10 from 24 balls.

Forty-fifth over - Bangladesh appeal for a wicket which looked great, but the umpire keeps his finger down. Bangladesh wasted their review earlier, so they can't appeal. The Blackcaps need 18 runs off 30 balls.

Forty-fourth over - WICKET - Jimmy Neesham goes for 25, and Bangladesh are in the box seat for a famous win. They need three wickets, New Zealand needs 25 runs.

Forty-third over - WICKET - Colin de Grandhomme tries to fool Mushfiqur Rahim, with a cheeky chip shot, but Mushfiqur takes the catch, and that is costly. Earlier in the over, de Grandhomme hit an inside edge, and he gets a favourite bounce as the ball goes for four.

Forty-second over - Another boundary for Neesham, as New Zealand are now just 33 runs away from victory.

Forty-first over - Shakib Al Hasan finishes his 10 overs 2/47. The Blackcaps are just 40 runs away from victory.

Fortieth over - Much-needed boundary for the Blackcaps, as they bring up 200 during the over. New Zealand needs 45 runs off 60 balls.

Thirty-ninth over - WICKET - Ross Taylor is gone. This is not over yet. The Blackcaps batsman edges the ball  Mushfiqur Rahim and Taylor departs for 82 off 91 balls. Colin de Grandhomme now comes to the crease.

Thirty-eighth over - Mehidy Hasan finishes his 10 overs with the ball 2/47. The Blackcaps are closing in on the 200 mark.

Thirty-seventh over - Ross Taylor is now on 80 runs. Neesham is trying to impose himself. He gets a four in the over. 58 runs now needed off 78 deliveries.

Thirty-sixth over - Neesham gets a six, which hits the rope. That was needed after a long run of singles and dots for the Kiwis.

Thirty-fifth over - Neesham gets his first runs on the board. The Blackcaps score four off the over. New Zealand are on 169/4, needing another 76 runs with six wickets in hand.

Thirty-fourth over - Another check for a run out here, and once again, the Blackcaps are safe by a nose hair. The throw was a direct hit on the stumps, and it deserved to be given out, but wasn't just the one run from the over.

Thirty-third over - Jimmy Neesham joins Taylor at the crease. He will be keen to make amends for his woeful two overs with the ball.

Thirty-second over - WICKETS - Mehidy Hasan strikes twice in the over and Bangladesh are back in this match. Kane Williamson's day is over. He plays a poor shot straight to Mosaddek Hossain and Mehidy Hasan has his first wicket of the match. That brings the end to a 105-run partnership. Tom Latham is out to the crease to join Taylor.

Five balls later, Latham hits the ball to Mohammad Saifuddin, and the wicketkeeper is gone for a duck. Blackcaps are 162/4 at the end of the over.

Thirty-first over - Two singles in that over. Williamson now on 40.

Thirtieth over - A four to Ross Taylor brings up the 100-run partnership with Kane Williamson. Other than that, another low-scoring over.

Twenty-ninth over - Only 92 needed now for victory. The partnership is now at 98.

Twenty-eighth over - Another steady over, as the Blackcaps chip away at the chase. They bring up the 150 mark with 133 balls remaining. Baring a significant collapse, they should cruise home here.

Twenty-seventh over - Six off the over and New Zealand are just 100 runs away from victory at The Oval.

Twenty-sixth over - Just one run from that over. Shakib Al Hasan is bowling well with 2/37 from eight overs.

Twenty-fifth over - Ross Taylor brings up his 50. It only takes 40 balls, and it's eighth against Bangladesh and his 48th in his career. Williamson now up to 35.

Twenty-fourth over - Mosaddek Hossain looking goof with the ball. 0/13 from three overs so far. Bangladesh really need a wicket to break his partnership. Blackcaps need 118 more runs for victory.

Twenty-third over - Sevens runs off that over. Taylor now just six runs away from his 50. Williamson is back on 30.

Twenty-second over - Ross Taylor is just 12 runs away from bringing up his 50.

Twenty-first over - Mustafizur Rahman continues his good bowling, as he's 0/11 after just three overs. On his third over, New Zealand only score two runs.

Twentieth over - Mosaddek Hossain is hit for four off his first ball bowled, but he backs that up with some dots. 110/2 at the end of the over.

Nineteenth over -  Four runs scored off Mustafizur Rahman's over, and that brings up the 50 run partnership between Taylor and Willaimson.

Eighteenth over - The Blackcaps bring up their 100, with 11 runs off the over. Ross Taylor is on 27, with Williamson on 25.

Seventeenth over - A four and a single to Williamson was all that happened during that over.

Time for a drinks break.

Sixteenth over - Another steady over with three runs being scored.

Fifteenth over - Mohammad Saifuddin comes in for his first over with the ball, and the Blackcaps hit a few singles off the over, before Taylor ends the over with a four. Blackcaps are 82/2, while Bangladesh were 64/2 at this stage during their innings.

Fourteenth over - Another potential run out. But Ross Taylor is safe by the length of a toenail. They're really pushing it trying to get these quick singles. Blackcaps now 74/2.

Thirteenth over - Three runs off that over, as Williamson and Taylor look to build on their partnership. They keep showing replays of the Willaimson run out which wasn't.

Twelfth over - Massive moment in the match, as Kane Williamson appears to have been run out. They're going to the third umpire to review.

Williamson is NOT OUT. The Blackcaps skipper survives as Mushfiqur Rahim's elbow hit the wickets before the ball reaches him, so by the letter of the law, Williamson is safe. Williamson was out by a mile, and if Mushfiqur left it, that would have been out. That was hitting the stumps.

Blackcaps 67/2 after 12 overs.

Eleventh over - The Blackcaps have gone cold here, as the Bangladesh bowlers continue to put the ball in good areas. But as I type that, Ross Taylor gets his first runs on the board with a four.

Tenth over - WICKET - Colin Munro departs for 24. His shot to  Mehidy Hasan just carries and the opener is gone. Ross Taylor joins captain Kane at the crease. Shakib Al Hasan hsa two wickets so far.

Ninth over - Another good Bangladesh over with just two runs scored.

Eighth over - Just one run scored in the over. Great bowling from Shakib Al Hasan.

Seventh over - steady over from Mehidy Hasan for the first five balls, till Munro hits a four off the final ball of the over. The Blackcaps bring up 50 with the boundary.

Sixth over - WICKET - Shakib Al Hasan comes into the attack, and off his first ball, he claims the scalp of Martin Guptill who tried hitting straight down for six, but it hangs in the air and he's caught. Guptill departs for 25 and Kane Williamson will come to the crease for the first time at the 2019 World Cup. Then off the next ball, Munro does what Guptill couldn't by hitting a six.

Two balls later, an appeal for LBW goes up. The umpire keeps his finger down, but Mashrafe Mortaza wants to review and luckily for the Blackcaps, the ball was well wide and Bangladesh lose their review. New Zealand is 43/1 at the end of the over.

Fifth over - Mustafizur Rahman comes into the attack for Bangladesh. Guptill brings up his quarter century,  as Munro hits another four.

Fourth over - Another four from Guptill as he continues to go crazy with the bat.

Third over - Guptill continues to swing as he is already on 19 runs, while at the other end, Munro hasn't been as flash, but he did get a boundary in the over.

Second over - Guptill goes one better to start the second, by hitting a six off
Mehidy Hasan's first ball. He isn't messing around so far.

First over - Here we go. The Blackcaps begin their chase of 245 for victory. Mashrafe Mortaza bowls to Martin Guptill and the Blackcaps batsman finds the boundary rope to start the New Zealand innings. New Zealand get seven runs off the over. It's a promising start.

======================================================

4:33am - Not long now till the Blackcaps come out to chase 255 for victory.

4:21am - Here are the bowling stats from the Blackcaps.

Matt Henry 4/47 from 9.2 overs
Trent Bout 2/44 from 10.0 overs
Lockie Ferguson 1/40 from 10.0 overs
Colin de Grandhomme 1/39 from 8.0 overs
Mitchell Santner 1/41 from 10.0 overs
Jimmy Neesham 0/24 from 2.0 overs

4:15am - Mitchell Santner spoke after the innings and said the pitch was slower than what they anticipated.

"It was a little slower than we thought it would be," Santner says of the pitch.

"We'll have to watch out for their bowlers, but we should be able to chase this. My role when it's not spinning is to dot it up through the middle, built up some pressure, and we cashed in later, which was good.

"It will be pretty good. The score is maybe a little below par, but the cutters are gripping in the surface, and they have some pretty good spinners too."

4:10am - The Blackcaps will need 245 runs to win the match. Martin Guptill and Colin Munro will open the batting soon. Can the Blackcaps chase down the total? Stay tuned to find out.

Fiftieth over - WICKETS - Here we go! The final over of the Bangladesh innings and Matt Henry strikes with a wicket off the first ball in the final over. Mashrafe Mortaza departs for just one. Then BOOM another wicket as Henry bowls Mustafizur Rahman out for a duck and Bangladesh finish their innings all out for 244. Henry finishes 4/47, and will be on a hat-trick with the next ball he bowls at the World Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan top scored for Bangladesh with 64. Mohammad Saifuddin the next best on 29. Five of their batsman finished with scores in the 20s.

Other than Jimmy Neesham, the Blackcaps bowlers were great and their fielding was awesome.

Forty-ninth over - WICKET - Trent Boult claims a wicket in the penultimate over. A little top edge from Mehidy Hasan to Tom Latham sees the Bangladesh batsman depart for seven. That is Boult's 150th ODI wicket. Mashrafe Mortaza comes to the crease. But it ends up being an expensive over with nine runs scored off the last two balls. Bout finishes his 10 over with figures of 2/44.

Forty-eighth over - Matt Henry comes back into the attack. He has two overs left. Bangladesh score seven runs off the over.

Forty-seventh over - WICKET - Trent Boult gets his first wickets of the game and Mosaddek Hossain will depart for 11. Mosaddek tries to smack the ball down the ground, but it hangs in the air, and Martin Guptill takes the catch. Mehidy Hasan, comes to the crease. Bangladesh get a few singles to round out the over which leaves them on 228/7 with three overs left.

Forty-sixth over - Bangladesh are finding their feet right on queue. Lockie Ferguson finishes his 10 over with figures of 1/40.

Forty-fifth over - Mitchell Santner appeals for a wicket, but the umpire doesn't put his finger up. Kane Williamson decides to appeal the decision, so the third umpire is reviewing it. The ball clips the edge of the bat some play goes on. Then off the final ball of the over Mohammad Saifuddin hits the ball for six. That was Santner's final over, so he finishes 1/41.

Forty-fourth over - Ferguson's second delivery is edged to Latham, but the ball falls just short of the wicketkeeper's gloves. Just three runs off that over. Bangladesh 205/6.

Forty-third over - WICKET - Santner claims a well-deserved wicket. Mahmudullah hits the ball straight into the hands of Kane Williamson, and that is a huge wicket at this stage of the game. It comes after two singles. Mohammad Saifuddin comes to the crease, and he gets a four off his second ball of the game, which brings up 200 for the Tigers.

Forty-second over - Ferguson comes back storming up the pitch. Just three runs in that over as Bangladesh close in on 200. At The Oval on Sunday, they scored 330, but this is a new pitch they're playing on.

Forty-first over - Mitchell Santner comes back for a bowl. He's been very efficient so far. Just four runs off that over.

Fortieth over - Here we go, some big overs coming up as just 10 remain at The Oval in London. Ferguson to bowl this over. A couple of balls are hit straight at Martin Guptill. They're half chances, but no catches. Just two runs off that over.

Thirty-ninth over - Boult carries on into his eighth over, and he's hit for four singles. Bangladesh are 186/5.

Thirty-eighth over - WICKET - Matt Henry claims his second wicket of the match. Mohammad Mithun mistimes his shot and Colin de Grandhomme safely catches the ball. Mithun departs for 26, and Mosaddek Hossain joins Mahmudullah at the crease.

Thirty-seventh over - Boult to continue bowling here. Gets off to a great start with three dot balls, before a leg bye and a wide are bowled. Then Mohammad Mithun hits a four to round off the over.

Thirty-sixth over - Matt Henry replaces Santner in the attack. He's 1/32 from six overs. After a first ball dot, Mohammad Mithun flicks the ball over the stumps, and it goes for four. The Tigers end up scoring six off the over.

Thirty-fifth over - Trent Boult is back in the attack for his sixth over. He's 0/22 so far. And only two runs off the over, leaving Bangladesh on 166/4 with 15 overs remaining.

Thirty-fourth over - Santner is back, and he produces another outstanding over. Only three runs scored as the Tigers are 164/4.

Thirty-third over - De Grandhomme to resume with the ball. Bangladesh score three runs off the over. This game has been very back-and-forth so far.

Time for another drinks break.

Thirty-second over - A few of singles off Santner's sixth over. He continues to impress with the ball. Off the last ball, Mohammad Mithun nearly chops the ball onto the stumps, but luckily for him, it didn't.

Thirty-first over - WICKET - Once again, Colin de Grandhomme comes up with a massive wicket. He claims the scalp of Shakib Al Hasan, who departs for 64. New Zealand really needed that wicket at it came at the perfect time. Shakib edges the ball and Tom Latham catches the ball. Mahmudullah comes to the crease.

Thirtieth over - Bangladesh bring up 150 now. Only three runs scored in the over.

Twenty-ninth over - De Grandhomme back in the attack and he's hit for four off his second delivery, and Williamson is changing up the field once again. Another chance goes begging for the Kiwis as Shakib's chance beats Trent Bount out in the field, and Bangladesh scores 11 off that over.

Twenty-eighth over - Shakib Al Hasan brings up his 50 - his fifth in his past six innings with Bangladesh. It comes off 54 balls as the Tigers' batsmen star to find their groove. Santner goes for seven off the over.

Twenty-seventh over - Now Ferguson is struggling as he is called for three-straight wides. That makes the Bangladesh fans happy, and they find their voice once again. Turns out to be an expensive over.

Twenty-sixth over - Santner back into the attack, hoping to continue his great start with the ball. Only two runs scored in the over and he's 0/4 after 18 balls.

Twenty-fifth over - Lockie Ferguson comes back into the attack. Bangladesh score eight runs in the over, and they're 118/3 at the midway stage.

Twenty-fourth over - WICKET - A much-needed wicket for New Zealand as Mushfiqur Rahim departs for 19 after being run out. He hits the ball and starts to run, but Shakib Al Hasan tells him to go back, and he's caught in no man's land. If they'd both ran, they would have been fine. Mohammad Mithun joins Shakib Al Hasan at the crease.

Another excellent over from Santner, as he only concedes two runs off the over.

Twenty-third over - Neesham comes back into the attack, and three straight fours for Bangladesh has the crowd on their feet and the Tigers have momentum as they bring up 100. The fourth ball doesn't go for four, but it is called wide. Shakib Al Hasan is now up to 36, as Bangladesh score 17 off the over.

Twenty-second over - Mitchell Santner comes into the attack, after just one over from Neesham. There is a run out chance for the Blackcaps and they throw the ball at the stumps, but Mushfiqur Rahim dives as the ball is thrown and it hits him in the wrist. The umpires don't have a problem with what happened as he didn't change his line at all. Mushfiqur is now getting checked over by medics before carrying on.

More importantly for New Zealand, it was a maiden over for the Kiwis.

Twenty-first over - De Grandhomme to resume bowling into his fifth over. The Tigers come out swinging and score nine runs off the over.

Twentieth over - Jimmy Neesham comes into the attack, replacing Lockie Ferguson. Three singles and a four off the over and the Bangladesh fans find their voice once again. They're 82/2 after 20 over.

Nineteenth over - Another great over by Colin de Grandhomme as Bangladesh only score one run. De Grandhomme is 0/12 from four overs with the ball.

Eighteenth over - Ferguson coming around the wicket to Mushfiqur, nearly gets him to pop one to Martin Guptill at leg gully, but the ball goes deeper than expected, and the Tigers get one run off that over.

Seventeenth over - Bangladesh get a much-needed boundary. It was close to being a six and close to being a wicket. Mushfiqur Rahim smashes the ball into the air, and it goes high and looks like for six, but lands cms from the boundary ropes and Boult makes a leaping dive, but he just misses the ball. A couple of singles, and a four from de Grandhomme's third over.

Time for a drinks break.

Sixteenth over - Only two runs off that over. Mushfiqur Rahim has two runs off 11 balls, while Shakib Al Hasan has 12 off 22 balls.

Fifteenth over - Colin de Grandhomme appeals for an LWB, but the umpires say no wicket.  Kane Williamson decides not to appeal, and it looks like they made the right call as the ball was going to miss leg-stump. A couple of runs for Bangladesh and they're 64/2.

Fourteenth over - WICKET - Ferguson claims a wicket, and what a way to respond after bowling a wide off the first ball of the over. Timim Iqbal goes for 24 as he hits the ball straight into the air and into the safe hands of Trent Boult. Bangladesh now 60/2 as Mushfiqur Rahim comes to the crease.

Thirteenth over - Colin de Grandhomme takes over from Henry. And it is another good over by the Kiwis as Bangladesh only score three runs.

Twelfth over - Lockie Ferguson comes in to replace Trent Boult. After two balls, there is a run-out chance, but a poor throw by Boult to the crease means Bangladesh survive. The Tigers score two runs off the Ferguson over and are 56/1.

Eleventh over - Six runs off the over for Henry. Probably his last over before somebody else takes over.

Tenth over - Another great over by Boult. He's 0/22 after five overs, as the Tigers score three runs during the over.

Ninth over - WICKET - New Zealand get the breakthrough they were desperate for. Matt Henry claims the scalp of Soumya Sarkar for 25. He chops the ball onto his pads and it hits the stumps. Shakib Al Hasan comes to the crease. Henry is 1/26 after five overs.

Eighth over - Tamim and Soumya are starting to find their feet now, as their partnership stands at 44 off the first eight overs. Boult goes for eight off the over.

Seventh over - What an over by Bangladesh. They score 12 runs, and Matt Henry looks frustrated. Soumya does most of the damage as he is now on 22 runs off 21 balls.

Sixth over - Boult continues, and Bangladesh only manage two runs off the over. Kane Williamson continues to change his field as they look for their first wicket.

Fifth over - Soumya nearly chops the ball onto the stumps, but it bounces wide and goes for two runs. Off the next ball, Soumya hits the ball straight down the ground, and it takes one bounce for four. Both Tamim and Soumya have 11 runs each after five overs.

Fourth over - Bangladesh gets their second four of the match, and the Tigers' fans love it as they cheer from the stands. Boult conceds six runs off the over.

Third over - Another great over by Henry. Just two runs scored, which came off the first ball of the over.

Second over - Trent Boult to bowl the second over. Soumya Sarkar, to face his first ball of the match.

Three singles off the over, so both Tamim and Soumya have runs on the board. 7/0 off two overs.

First over - Here we go. Matt Henry to open the bowling for the Kiwis with Tamim Iqbal to face the first ball.

Solid first over by Henry, first two balls are dots, but the third is edged to the boundary for four. He bounces back with three more dots to end the over.

12:22am - Time for the national anthems.

12:13am - Batsman Shakib Al Hasan plays his 200th ODI for Bangladesh; the third to do so behind Mashrafe Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim.

12:10am - Here are the confirmed lineups. As expected, both tears are unchanged.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehidy Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Mustafizur Rahman

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (wk), James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

12:03am - Kane Williamson has won the toss and the Blackcaps will bowl first.

"We're going to bowl," said the NZ skipper. "It's a fresh surface. It was a good performance against Sri Lanka but you prepare and adapt for the new opposition."

12:00am - Good morning everyone. Welcome to Newshub's live updates of the Blackcaps' match against Bangladesh. We will have the confirmed starting XI's for you shortly. Currently in London, it's overcast, but no rain expected which is pleasing.

======================================

Kia ora, good evening/morning and welcome to Newshub's live updates of the Cricket World Cup match between New Zealand and Bangladesh from The Oval in London.

Both teams line up for their second outings of the tournament with opening wins under their belts. The Blackcaps easily accounted for Sri Lanka over the weekend, while the Tigers put a cat among the pigeons, upsetting South Africa earlier this week.

These two sides are no strangers, after Bangladesh toured New Zealand over the summer, but this occasion has a sombre build-up, with the tourists having to leave our country early in March, after narrowly escaping the mosque shootings in Christchurch.

By all accounts, they have forged a stronger bond since that tragedy, and although they were barely competitive in ODI and test formats during their tour, they are bolstered by the addition of star all-round Shakib Al Hassan.

Shakib is currently the top ODI all-rounder in ICC rankings and starred with the bat (75 runs off 84 balls) against South Africa.

Meanwhile, coach Gary Stead has named the same NZ line-up that dealt to Sri Lanka four days ago, with late replacements Matt Henry and Colin Munro retaining their spots, while Tim Southee and Henry Nicholls recover from injury.

Join us just after midnight for the toss and the start of play.
