Golf: Gary Woodland leads by one at US Open

American golfer Gary Woodland is about to face the toughest test of his career, holding off the field as they try and chase him to win the US Open at the holy grail of golf courses in the USA - Pebble Beach.

Just 18 holes separate Woodland and getting his hands on a few major trophies.

The 35-year-old shot a third round two-under-par 69 to lead by one shot.

The world number 25 is a shot ahead of 2013 champion Justin Rose, who fired a three-under-par 68 in the third round.

Rose is a further three shots ahead of American duo Chez Reavie and Brooks Koepka and South African Louis Oosthuizen.

Koepka is chasing history of his own. He's bidding to become the first man since Willie Anderson in 1905 to win three straight US Open titles as he starts the final round four shots off the lead.

Rory McIlroy will start the final round five shots off the lead as he searches for his second US Open title.

Tiger Woods shot an even-par 71 in his third round to sit in a tie for 27th, 11 shots off the lead.
