Breakdancing, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing have been provisionally included on the programme for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) members made the decision on the second day of the organisation's 134th session in Lausanne, rubber-stamping a proposal made by Paris 2024's organising committee earlier this year.

Breakdancing - or breaking, as the sport is known - was part of the Youth Olympic Games programme in 2018 and will feature at the inaugural World Urban Games in Budapest in September.

Climbing, skateboarding and surfing are all set to make their Olympic debuts in Tokyo next year.

But baseball and karate, which were added to the 2020 programme by the Japanese, have been dropped for Paris.

Squash was the other sport in contention for a place in the 2024 schedule, but it missed out.

IOC president Thomas Bach said the four sports proposed by Paris 2024 were "totally in line" with his Olympic Agenda 2020 plan for making the Games more diverse, urban and appealing to younger audiences.

The IOC's executive board will make a final ruling on the sports programme and athlete quotas in December 2020.
