State of Origin 2019: Off-field drama dominates Game One build-up

For Queensland, the road to reclaiming State of Origin is paved with Suncorp Stadium soil.

They've won twice as many games there as New South Wales. But this year in Brisbane, the Blues are the favourites.

Queensland Coach Kevin Walters has other ideas.

"I'm very confident you'll see a Queensland team that will play the game of its life," said Walters.

Both sides are trying to phase out the off-field distractions.

But as the Blues arrived in Brisbane, a supposed sex tape of one of their players circulated online.

The team remains united, despite an anthem protest.

Indigenous players say it doesn't represent them and tomorrow night they'll boycott the song.

"I'm not going to judge anyone for singing the national anthem," said Cody Walker. "That's just my belief and that's what I believe in."

Instead, the focus is on the field, where debutant sensation Cody Walker gives even more spark to the champion Blues. While for Queensland, Kalyn Ponga is the side's form player.

And the underdog Maroons have their eye on an upset, with no better place to do it than Suncorp's hallowed turf.
