Super Rugby 2019: Wallabies hooker Tolu Latu sanctioned following drink-driving conviction

Wallabies and NSW Waratahs hooker Tolu Latu has been sanctioned by Rugby Australia following his drink-driving conviction in Sydney earlier this month.

Latu was fined $1300 and suspended from driving for three months, pleading guilty to mid-range drink-driving and driving with a suspended licence.

Rugby Australia weighed in on Wednesday, fining Latu $5000 and suspending him for four matches.

The 26-year-old was stood down by the Waratahs after the incident so he has already served three matches of a ban which will be completed when he misses Saturday's Shute Shield clash between Sydney University and Eastwood.

Rugby Australia said Latu may also undergo "counselling and/or alcohol education programs".

A Rugby Australia statement said Latu, who aims to be part of the Wallabies' World Cup campaign in Japan from September, accepted the sanctions.
