Cincinnati Reds reliever Amir Garrett decided to take matters into his own hands as tempers boiled over during a fiery Major League Baseball clash with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday (NZT).
Tensions were on a knife-edge after a Pirates pitcher fired some head-height shots at a Reds batter, adding to the animosity carried over from a heated encounter earlier in the season that had erupted into fisticuffs.
It all came to a head when Garrett - who had been exchanging taunts with the opposition throughout the innings - suddenly charged the Pirates dugout to single-handedly take on the entire Pittsburgh team, sparking a wild brawl.
Just as some semblance of order has been restored, star slugger Yasiel Puig - who literally minutes earlier had been confirmed as part of a trade to the Indians - began another mini-melee.
The incident resulted in eight ejections, including Garrett and Puig.
Ultimately, the visiting Pirates had the last laugh, emerging 11-4 victors.
