Boxing: Joseph Parker's brother kicked off US flight, detained in Chicago

Joseph Parker's younger brother has been detained in Chicago, after an alleged assault at O'Hare International Airport.

John Parker allegedly attacked at least one member of the public, after being removed from his Los Angeles-bound flight for a ticketing issue.

He was travelling back to Las Vegas, after his brother's stoppage win over Alex Leapai in Rhode Island at the weekend.

NZME reports Parker was involved in a separate incident at his hotel the night before, allegedly attacking a member of Joseph's management team.

Joseph's manager David Higgins is aware of both the hotel fracas and airport incident.

"I wasn’t present at the time of the incident so am not fully aware of the details," Higgins said in a statement.

"It's become apparent that John has been dealing with some mental health issues that seem to have contributed to the issue.

"Obviously I sympathise with those involved and we're looking to provide all the support we can.

"The matter is in the hands of the U.S. authorities. I sincerely hope John is receiving the care he requires, and offer my heartfelt sympathies and best wishes to everyone who has been affected."

Joseph Parker said in a statement of his own that his brother's welfare is in his prayers.

"I can confirm that my brother John has been detained in the United States following an incident that occurred on his way home to New Zealand.

"This is an extremely difficult and upsetting situation for our family, and we humbly request privacy at this time."

It is not known if John Parker, a former professional boxer, will be charged with an offence.
