Cricket World Cup 2019: Blackcaps qualify for semi-finals, despite Pakistan win over Bangladesh

The Blackcaps are through to the Cricket World Cup semi-finals after Pakistan could no longer better their net run-rate in their final group game against Bangladesh on Friday.

Sarfaraz Ahmed's team needed a  "miracle" to smash the world record for margin of victory in a one-day international, but after winning the toss at Lord's, they failed to muster enough runs to give them a chance.

An Imam Ul-Haq century and 96 from Babar Azam saw them post 315/9 from their 50 overs, meaning Pakistan had to bowl Bangladesh out for seven or less to have their net-run-rate climb over New Zealand's.

Bangladesh passed seven from the 11th ball of their innings, a single from Tamim Iqbal off Mohammad Amir confirming a fourth consecutive semi-final for the Blackcaps at the World Cup.

Pakistan did go on to claim a resounding 94-run win, thanks to a six-wicket haul from Shaheen Afridi.

The paceman took 6/35 in 9.1 overs to finish the tournament with 16 wickets, the most by a teenager in World Cup history.

For New Zealand, they will now travel down to Manchester and face either Australia or India in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
