Cricket World Cup 2019: Indian fans gracious after losing to Blackcaps in semi-finals

The Blackcaps will have 1.339 billion more fans supporting them in the Cricket World Cup final, after they claimed an 18-run win over India in Manchester.

India headed into the semi-final as favourites, but New Zealand defied the odds in a thrilling semi-final at Old Trafford.

Most of the fans at the stadium were Indian supporters and Newshub's Europe correspondent Lloyd Burr reported they were all gracious in defeat.

"We're sad, but our team tried their best, but New Zealand played well, and those three early wickets are why they're in the final," one supporter said.

The Blackcaps will face either England or Australia in Sunday's final at Lord's, and it was clear from Burr's interactions who the fans would be backing in the showpiece event.

Some Indian fans had purchased Blackcaps hats to pledge their allegiance to Kane Williamson's men in the final.

"We hope New Zealand wins the final and lifts the trophy," another supporter said. "New Zealand has to win it."

Even West Indies fans wore Blackcaps gear.

One New Zealand fan said it was "special" to be at Old Trafford to watch the historic win

"It was amazing, especially being among all the Indian fans was special," he said.
