Injured Silver Ferns defender Katrina Rore is on the mend.

The former skipper hurt her ankle in training two weeks ago, leaving her World Cup hopes in peril.

But coach Noeline Taurua has given Rore every chance to recover, allowing the 32-year-old to travel to the United Kingdom and receive treatment from the medical staff.

With two final warmup games against Scotland coming in the next few days, Rore is hopeful she can get a run, and prove she is ready to go for the start of the tournament on July 12.

"I'm feeling pretty confident," Rore said on Saturday.

"Especially after this morning's training where I had confidence in everything I was doing physically, but you never know.

"Just got to keep getting through each day and then the coaches will make a call on the 8th or 9th of July. I have to focus on being 100 percent.

"I don't want to be a liability, I don't want to get to the World Cup and then break down. That's not fair on the team, but I want to be there so bad.

"If I can get a full quarter in against Scotland then that should be a good sign that I'm nearing 100 per cent. "

Should Rore fail to prove her fitness, the Ferns have a ready-made replacement in Micheala Sokolich-Beatson already in camp.

And for that reason, Rore won't be lying to herself or the medical team if her place in the team comes down to the wire.

"I have to go 100 per cent in these games to make sure the coaches and my teammates trust me going forward.

"You can't put in 80 per cent and hope for the best - that's not fair to the team.

"It's not just myself but it's the team that is involved and Michaela as well. We are lucky to have such a great player like her here if I'm no good."

It's been a tough 18 months for Rore, who led New Zealand to a disastrous fourth-place finish at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which included a shock loss to Malawi.

The Central Pulse then suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Southern Steel in the final of the ANZ Premiership with Rore as captain.

She would then finish the year omitted from Noeline Tuarua's Silver Ferns squad for the Netball Quad Series.

But a stellar campaign for the Pulse this year, which culminated in victory, had Rore back in the Ferns squad for the World Cup.

Then comes the injury scare which left Rore questioning if it was meant to be.

"This has been the hardest mental battles I have had in my career and I've had a few," Rore said.

"This has been a massive roller coaster. Being dropped last year to making it back into the side for the World Cup to thinking that maybe I might not be there after all. It's been crazy, but that is sport and there are people around me to help me through it.

"I wouldn't want to be here with anybody else."

New Zealand open their campaign on July 12 against Malawi.
