Supercars: Kiwi Scott McLaughlin fined for podium celebration after Ipswich win

Kiwi Supercars driver Scott McLaughlin has been hit with $13,000 in fines over his race 20 victory celebrations at the Ipswich SuperSprint on Sunday.

McLaughlin was fined $10,000 fine for taking a "non-permitted item" onto the podium, as well as $3000 for breaching end-of-race procedures with his burnout after claiming his 14th race win of 2019.

The non-permitted item was a poster celebrating Ford's victory in the 2019 Manufacturers' Championship, which McLauchlin secured with his win in the Queensland town.

The fines were confirmed in the stewards' post-race report.

"Following a post-race DRD investigation and admission of a breach of the End of Race Procedures for Race 20 [burnouts past the nominated points] by car 17, Scott McLaughlin, the Stewards imposed the penalty of a fine of $3000 on Scott McLaughlin," the report said.

"Following a post-race DRD investigation and admission of a breach of Rule E6.8.2 [non-permitted item on the podium] by car 17, Scott McLaughlin, the Stewards imposed the penalty of a fine of $10,000 on Scott McLaughlin."

The poster celebrated Ford wrapping up the Manufacturers' Championship after the new-for-2019 Mustang claimed its 17th win from 20 races in 2019.

Triple Eight and Tickford were also hit with post-race fines for refuelling tower breaches, the latter twice earning the $10,000 fine, half of which is suspended.

With 12 races remaining this season, McLauchlan holds a 433-point lead over his nearest rival in teammate Fabian Coulthard.

The Supercars are back in action next month at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia, before coming to Auckland in September.
