'We've got the cup': Silver Ferns touch down in Auckland

The Silver Ferns are back on home soil after a stellar win against Australia, exhausted but overjoyed with their success.

The girls touched down in Auckland on Wednesday morning after a long flight from the UK.

"It's been about 30 hours of travelling," goal attack Ameliaranne Ekenasio told The AM Show.

"So we're a little bit tired but it doesn't even matter 'cause we've got the cup."

Ekenasio said she "couldn't believe" how many people were at the airport to greet the winning team.

"There's actually heaps! It feels really, really special," she said.

Ekenasio says the win is thanks to the hard work of the team's coach Noeline Taurua and the leadership she has given. She also credited teamwork to the victory.

"There's so many of us that contributed to it, there was never a point where we talked about individual performance it was always our strength was the strength in the collective," Ekenasio told The AM Show.

She said winning the World Cup was "the proudest moment of her life" and she does it for love, not money.

"We play 'cause we have so much pride in the fern, the black dress, that's our passion, that's where our fire burns. It's not for the money at all."
