Wimbledon 2019: Kiwi Artem Sitak soaked by erratic sprinkler in mixed-doubles match

A mixed-doubles match involving Kiwi Artem Sitak at Wimbledon had to be moved to another court after an errant sprinkler doused the players in water.

On Saturday (NZ time), Sitak and German partner Laura Siegemund were sitting on their chairs at a change of ends during their first-round clash with Britain's Ken Skupski and Croatian Darija Jurak on Court 15 when the sprinkler behind the umpire's chair suddenly burst into life.

Siegemund quickly grabbed her bag before scurrying away to avoid a drenching, while Sitak remained in his seat before eventually ducking for cover.

A quick-thinking Wimbledon employee was able to halt the spray by stepping on the sprinkler, but the water suddenly began spraying again, knocking over the players' chairs as Sitak and Siegemund ran for cover.

Once the sprinkler was under control the court was deemed too wet to play on, so the match resumed on Court 16.

The move did not hamper Sitak and Siegemund though, with the pair winning the match 3-6 6-3 6-4.
