Serena Williams has been fined $10,000 (NZ$15,094) for damaging a Wimbledon tennis court with her racquet.

The 37-year-old threw her racquet during a practice session on the weekend before this year's tournament, damaging the outside court.

The fine is a mere drop in the ocean for the former world number one and seven-time Wimbledon champion, who just earned £294,000 (NZ$555,254) for reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals, reports The Telegraph.

Italian world number 10 Fabio Fognini, 32, also was fined for his Wimbledon antics after saying he wished "a "bomb would explode" during his loss to Tennys Sandgren on Saturday. He has been fined £2,400 (NZ$4,533).

Williams, who is currently ranked number 10 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association, will verse US player Alison Riske in the quarter-finals.
