Former NZ captain Danny Hay will this afternoon be announced as the new coach of the All Whites.

Sources have confirmed to Newshub that Hay will be confirmed in the role at a New Zealand Football press conference on Monday afternoon, emerging as the preferred candidate following a global search which began in June.

At the time, Hay confirmed to Newshub he was "100 percent interested" in the role. One insider subsequently described the recruitment process as a “one-horse race”.

Hay has previously coached the NZ U17 men's team and last year guided Eastern Suburbs to the national league title.

He enjoyed a strong playing career that saw him play in the UEFA Champions League with English club Leeds United in the late 1990s. Hay played 31 games for New Zealand from 1996-2007.

The 44-year-old replaces Fritz Schmid, who resigned in June, after 16 months in the job.
