Kiwi basketballer Steven Adams' reputation as a genuine bloke was on full display during his coaching camp in Whangārei.

The NBA big man is passionate about growing the game among New Zealand's youth, holding camps at home over the past four off-seasons.

But a moment captured by Oklahoma City Thunder's social media crew showed Adams is a man of the people.

The Oklahoma City Thunder centre helping out Ruben, a young boy with cerebral palsy, during a hectic training session on Sunday.

A video shot for OKC's Twitter fan page showed Ruben trying to get his hero's attention so he could get an autograph.

Adams ran over to Ruben, asking: "You need me?"

Ruben then asked Adams for an autograph and the Rotorua native obliged with trademark wit.

"That's all right, bro," he said.

Adams found time on his quick trip home to catch up with his Olympic champion sister, Dame Valerie Adams.

The siblings posted together on Instagram, after a gym workout, alongside Dame Valerie's sister Lisa, who also suffers from cerebral palsy.
