NRL 2019: Chanel Harris-Tavita earns start for Warriors against Manly Sea Eagles

Promising young Warriors half Chanel Harris-Tavita will have a chance to add to his rapidly growing reputation, when he claims the No.6 jersey for the clash with the Manly Sea Eagles at Mt Smart on Friday.

The 20-year-old will replace regular Kodi Nikorima, who hasn't recovered from the ankle injury aggravated early in the side's heavy defeat to the Canberra Raiders on Saturday.

Harris-Tavita turned plenty of heads in his near 60-minute stretch last weekend, scoring two tries and defending stoutly, as a lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal outing for the Warriors.

Hooker Karl Lawton has also succumbed to the shoulder injury that forced him from the field against the Raiders and will hand the No.9 jersey to utility Jazz Tevaga for the contest against the surging Sydneysiders.

Coming onto the interchange for the Manly contest are half Adam Keighran and middle forward Ligi Sao, along with front rower Sam Lisone.

Sao hasn't featured since the loss to the Broncos in late May, but has played a starring role - alongside Lisone - in the reserve-grade side's recent push to sixth place on the ladder.

Fifth-placed Manly have long been a bogey side for the Warriors and come to Auckland with a three-game win streak, which includes a rare victory over the league-leading Storm in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, the slumping Warriors - currently sitting12th on the NRL ladder - hope to avoid the ignominy of a club record-setting seventh straight defeat at Mt Smart Stadium.
