Bad weather has put a damper on play in the second test between Sri Lanka and the Blackcaps in Colombo.

Just before lunch, the clouds rolled in so they took an early lunch, which was as good as it got for day two.

Earlier, Trent Boult and Tim Southee got the ball rolling for the visitors early on day two as they had Sri Lanka reeling at 144/6 at lunch.

Boult dismissed Angelo Matthews (2) and Kusal Perera (5) in a double-wicket maiden which got the Kiwis on the front foot early on in Colombo.

Southee claimed Niroshan Dickwella (0) and Dimuth Kurunaratne (65) before the break to lead the Blackcaps into a commanding position.

It rained throughout the afternoon as an early tea break was taken at 9:30 pm NZT, play was called off at 10 pm NZT.
