Bob Carter has been appointed White Ferns head coach until the end of the ICC Women's World Cup 2021 tournament.

Carter, who has been the White Ferns interim coach since February, replaces Haidee Tiffen, who decided not to reapply for the job when her contract ended.

The 59-year-old has plenty of coaching experience, including Canterbury from 2008-12, while serving as Blackcaps assistant coach twice - 2004-8, and 2012-14, before stepping down to become the high-performance coach.

Carter will have plenty of time to work things out behind the scenes, before his first official game in charge next January,  when the White Ferns face South Africa in two ODIs and five T20s, before embarking on a T20 World Cup campaign in Australia.

Before then, he will work with the team at a training camp later this month.

"It's an exciting time to come on board, with two big world tournaments on the horizon," said Carter.

"We have the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in February next year and the Women's World Cup 2021 that we are hosting here in New Zealand - it's a big couple of seasons coming up.

"We have a number of senior players who have been performing at the top of the international game and remain committed to working hard in bringing success to the White Ferns."
