NZ-born England cricketer Ben Stokes' family has been harbouring a secret - his half-brother and sister were murdered by their father before he was born.

The Sun reports Tracey, 8, and Andrew, 4, were shot by father Richard Dunn in Christchurch in 1988.

Dunn was married to Stokes' mother before she began a relationship with Ben's father  and the pair split.

Stokes, who was one of England's stars during the recent Ashes series in the UK, was born in 1991 and has never publically spoken about the murders.

The Sun reports Dunn had custody of his children for the weekend, when he shot them, before shooting himself.
