Canterbury's hopes of a Mitre 10 Cup premiership home semi-final are fading fast, after a shock loss to Manawatu in Christchurch.

The Turbos scored a 32-29 bonus-point win - their first against the red-and-blacks since 2016.

Canterbury's three-game winning streak was snapped in the process, halting their playoff charge, and handing Auckland or Wellington a chance to pull clear on the table, depending on the result of their match on the weekend.

Manawatu led 25-5 at the break, with tries to All Blacks reject Ngani Laumape, John Galloway and Andre Taylor.

Canterbury came storming back in the second spell, scoring four tries, but a late Brayden Lose touchdown all-but sealed the points for the green-and-whites.

Laumape was excellent for his side, providing staunch defence and trademark hard running to propel the Turbos to victory, and catapult them into championship playoff contention.
