Wellington have put together an attacking clinic at Westpac Stadium, thrashing Otago 54-24 in their Mitre 10 Cup match.

The home side made their intentions clear very early on, winger Wes Goosen scoring after just 38 seconds of the match.

That paved the way for more scoring to come and Alex Fidow doubled the lead for the Lions after five minutes.

Henry Purdy scored the opener for Otago, taking the score to 14-5 after 15 minutes.

But it was one-way traffic for the next 40 minutes, running in five tries through Fidow, Peter Umaga-Jensen, Kemara Hauiti-Parapara, Ben Lam and Goosen, and ballooning the score to 47-5 after 51 minutes.

Goosen got his hat-trick just 13 minutes later to cap off an impressive display from Wellington, the win putting them second on the premiership standings.

In the second game of the day, Tasman left it late to seal their sixth-straight Mitre 10 Cup win, beating North Harbour 21-17.

Hooker James Parsons scored first try of the match, giving North Harbour the lead after six minutes.

But the Mako showed why they were the favourites for the title, hitting back through halfback Finlay Christie.

Both sides scored a further try each, which took the score to 17-14 to North Harbour with five minutes to go.

Step up the Mako, who made a push for the line and after a couple of minutes of domination, they were awarded a penalty try, sealing the 21-17 win.
