Motorsport: NZ's future as WRC host set to be decided

Rally New Zealand officials are about to learn whether they have the green light to stage a round of the exclusive World Rally Championship.

Newshub understands a vote will be held this weekend to determine the calendar for the 2020 season, and whether or not New Zealand will host a one-off event.

Rally New Zealand chair Peter Johnson hopes to secure a round next year, but isn't prepared to pre-empt anything before the vote.

Newshub understands New Zealand is on the proposed calendar that needs ratification from the World Motorsport Council's vote this weekend.

New Zealand last hosted a WRC event in 2012.
