Cricket: Blackcaps' Daryl Mitchell eager to replicate father's success

With England making the World Cup final, a unique father-son sporting occasion is set to play out this weekend.

Former All Blacks coach John Mitchell is part of the England coaching set-up vying to win a second Rugby World Cup, while son Daryl is poised to play against England in his chosen sport - cricket.

And, yes, there was communication after that rugby semi-final in Yokohama.

"It was a strange game for our household," Mitchell told Newshub. "I support the All Blacks through and through, but at the same time, you want your old man to do well."

Actually that depends on what sport you're playing.

"We had many a backyard battle at cricket. He thinks he's better than what he is, he thought he was a bit of a bowler.

"By the time I was 13, I could clean him up."
