Mitre 10 Cup: Bay of Plenty demolish hapless Manawatu in championship semi-final

Bay of Plenty have booked their spot in the Mitre 10 Cup Championship final with a resounding 64-3 over Manawatu in Rotorua.

The Steamers were far too strong across the park for the under-manned Turbos, who were without the likes of star midfielder Ngani Laumape, Rob Thompson and Andre Taylor.

Fullback Emoni Narawa was the stand-out with a hat-trick of tries, while No.8 Hoani Matenga was a menace off the back of a dominant pack.

The 10 tries to zip demolition sets up a home final against the winner of Saturday's second semi-final between Hawke's Bay and Otago in Napier.

The Steamers opened the try scoring courtesy of Narawa, who crashed on to a flat pass and into a big hole to dot down after just seven minutes.

Joe Ravouvou was in a few minutes later, cashing in on a Narawa break.

A pushover try to Nathan Vella, followed by another driving maul effort finished by Matenga moments later, pushed the lead out to 24-3 with 10 minutes left in the half.

Halfback Richard Judd snuck under the bar from close range to essentially end the contest at halftime, to send his team into sheds with a huge 31-3 advantage.

Bay of Plenty picked up where they left off in the second half, with Aidan Ross finishing a well worked try six minutes in.

Narawa then combined with Ravouvou to run in his second try, which led to a complete clearing of the Bay of Plenty bench.

Pryor Collier latched on to a grubber, Narawa galloped in to seal his hat-trick, Jason Robertson stole a dubious one, and the rout was complete.
