Veteran New Zealand Breakers forward Tom Abercrombie has signed an extension at the Australian NBL club.

The 32-year-old's new deal will keep him at the club until the end of the 2022 season.

Abercrombie, the Breakers inspirational skipper, has been with the club his entire professional career, having debuted in 2009.

The Tall Black swingman has played 303 NBL games, scoring 3,450 points - a club record - while Abercrombie has also been part of all four championship-winning teams.

"It is important for me as a player who’s been here a long time to show that I’m 100 percent behind the changes at the club," said Abercrombie

"I am 100 percent committed to what Dan Shamir and the team are doing and the direction the club is going."

Abercrombie has played under four Breakers coaches, Andrej Lemanis, Dean Vickerman, Paul Henare and Kevin Braswell, but has been incredibly impressed with new mentor Dan Shamir.

The new Director of Basketball a big reason for the Kiwis long term commitment.

"I've only been playing under Dan for a month or so now, but I’m learning a huge amount," he said.

"He’s an incredibly smart coach who demands a lot from his guys, but I think the thing we are seeing is that his style relies on a lot of basketball smarts and experience.

"Those are the two things I bring by the truckload. I think it’s a system that suits me very well and Dan’s coaching style suits me too."

The Breakers start their NBL campaign on Friday night in Sydney against the Kings.
