Netball: Casey Kopua pregnant during Silver Ferns' World Cup run

World Cup-winning Silver Ferns defender Casey Kopua has revealed she was pregnant during New Zealand's magical run at the Netball World Cup in July.

Kopua ended her netball career in style, named Player Of The Match in the World Cup final, as the Ferns beat Australia 52-51 in Liverpool to reclaim the title they last won in 2003.

After returning home, she discovered she was pregnant, which came as a huge shock to her and husband Terry.

"I took the test because I was feeling unwell and when I told my husband Terry, he was like 'are you sure?', because we didn't see each other that much before the World Cup," she told Te Āo Māori News.

"It happened very quickly, but I'm very excited about it."

Te Āo Māori News reports the 34-year-old is 14 weeks pregnant and the baby will be the couple's second child, after the birth of daughter Maia in 2016.

Maia made international headlines after the Netball World Cup, when she was caught licking her mum's chest during a post-match interview with Sky Sports UK.

"Maia, do you like the taste of the sweat?" the interviewer asks the girl through laughter.

Kopua had first retired in early 2017, not long after Maia's birth, but she returned to the sport, when Noeline Tauraua became Silver Ferns coach, after the 2018 Commonwealth Games failure.

"This is the biggest highlight of my life," Kopua told The AM Show after the final. "I don't regret it.

"I've loved being apart of all the journeys and I look forward to the next one."
