Off-contract NZ Warriors hooker Issac Luke seems set to be thrown an NRL lifeline by the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The Daily Telegraph claims the Dragons will offer Luke a cut-price one-year deal.

After the departure of Reece Robson to the North Queensland Cowboys, the Dragons need a back-up hooker, with regular starter Cameron McInnes recovering from a broken leg.

McInnes suffered a fibula fracture and a high-grade syndesmosis injury in the Dragons' penultimate game last season.

Luke, 32, ended a four-year stint at the Warriors after the 2019 season, and had previously been linked to the Manly Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers.

He has played 271 NRL games, since making his debut in 2007 with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
