Opinion: If you stop supporting the Crusaders for rebranding, you're not a true fan

OPINION: It's time people get over themselves and accept the Crusaders rebrand.

With the logo updated and the sword dropped, there's been talk on social media they will no longer support the three-time defending champions. Really?

You're telling me you refuse to support the most successful team in Super Rugby history, who have done the top of the South Island proud for more than two decades, all because of a logo?

Pathetic.

Following the Christchurch terror attacks, and the announcement the sword and knight would be dumped from the logo, I'll be the first to admit I thought it was a knee-jerk reaction.

I am, after all, a one-eyed Cantabrian, through and through. Born into a rugby-mad family, I have supported the team since I set foot on this earth.

But even someone as one-eyed as myself can see the bigger picture.

It's not the logo that represents what this team has achieved, it's the people - it's the Marshalls, the Mehrtens, Blackadders and McCaws who have made this great franchise what it is, not an emblem.

And then there's the next generation of stars - Mo'unga, Bridge, Reece and so-on. Do you think they're going to leave the franchise because of a logo?

No, then why should you stop supporting them?

The players and coaches understand there is more to this great franchise than just an emblem.

True fans should know this too.
