New Breakers recruit Glen Rice Jr has been arrested after an incident at an Auckland bar in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Chief executive Matt Walsh confirmed the arrest and told Newshub they are trying to get more information on what happened.

"Glen let us know the incident that happened overnight on Wed going into Thursday morning, we are in the process now of gathering more information," Walsh told Newshub.

"Once we know more we can make a decision as a club," he added.

"We are a club that will stand by their players and we feel comfortable sending him to Perth."

Rice has a troubled past, including arrests on battery and drug possession.

Under coach Dan Shamir's watch, he was reportedly sacked for punching a teammate but eventually returned to Holon for the playoffs.

While Shamir concedes Rice has a troubled past, he insists the guard can help get the Breakers back on track, as they sit seventh in the ANBL standings with two wins in six games.

The Breakers will decide on Rice's future on Monday.
