5th over - Southee back. Tough chance put down at square leg by Guptill, that would've been a screamer. Instead, it's four more.

4th over - Yet another bundary to start Ferguson's over, this time it's Malan. All dots for the rest of the over.

3rd over - Kuggelijn's first ball is sent to the ropes by Bairstow, first boundary of the innings. Flicks the next one over square leg for six. Picks the slower ball and sends another over long-on for four. Square cut makes it four boundaries off the over.

2nd over - Ferguson's up. Right on the mark early, singles to each batsmen to get off the mark. Excellent start.

1st over - Southee takes the ball for the opening NZ over. Some encouraging early movement, three dots to start. Inside edge, another dot. Wide down leg to put the first run on the England board.

_________________________________________________________________________

End of innings - NZ were never allowed to get going against a tight England attack. The tourists will be happy chasing that total. Join us back here shortly as that pursuit gets underway.

20th over - Brown to bowl the final over. Taylor skies one on an attempted slog-sweep, falls to safety but only one run. Mitchell gloves one for a single. OUT - Taylor back to cow corner and this time the catch is taken by Bairstow. Taylor c Bairstow b Brown 44(35). Santner up, only manages a single. Mitchell finds a gap for two runs on the final delivery.

19th over - Jordan in for his last over. Taylor goes low and flat to cow corner, straightforward chance is put down by Vince. Mitchell goes to cover for one. Taylor pulls for six. Dot ball. Single to finish the over and keep strike for Taylor.

18th over - Taylor slashes at one off T.Curran, just a single. Pace off well, Mitchell can only buy a single. Drives straight for four. Just singles to close, NZ need to go large in the final two overs.

17th over - Jordan wants to review what he thinks is an edge behind from Taylor. No dice. Taylor drives straight back past Jordan for a boundary. Shocker full toss down leg and Mitchell gives it what it deserves, over the rope for six.

16th over - Mitchell smokes a pull shot but it's straight to deep square leg. Taylor late cut is run down for just a single. Mitchell stands tall and lofts a straight drive over long off.

15th over - Taylor glances fine for four.  Mitchell steals two to cover. Curran great slower ball, batsmen caught in two minds but the fielder misses the stumps. Time to start swinging for NZ.

14th over - OUT - Seifert pulls away a full toss that's caught deep. Looks as though it could well have been above waist height, but the third umpire is happy with it and NZ lose another wicket. Seifert c Bairstow b Jordan 32(26)

13th over - Taylor well run two off Rashid. Taylor to a knee and sweeps just fine enough enough to beat fine leg for four.

12th over - S. Curran back. Taylor with some cheeky doubles. Seufert pinches one. Must almost time to start launching for NZ.

11th over - OUT - CDG goes deep again but this time it's right down the fielder's throat. De Grandhomme c Vince b Rashid 19(14)

10th over - CDG pulls to deep long-on, well fielded to save the boundary. Bangs a one-handed one over square leg for six to end the over.

8th over - Debutant Pat Brown in for his first over. Misfield gifts Seifert three runs. Couple of singles, decent first-up effort.

7th over - Rashid up to the bowling crease. De Grandhomme underway with a hefty pull that disects the outfield for four.

6th over - Jordan into the attack with some medium pace. Excellent length to start. OUT - Just as he was settling in, Munro spoons a harmless ball to mid-on for a soft dismissal. Munro c Morgan b Jordan 20 (21)

5th over - Munro pulls away but straight to deep square leg, just one there. Seifert rocks back and blasts a straightish hook over mid-off for six. Munro backs that up with one of his own, uses his feet well and hoists a slower ball over the rope at long on. Make it consecutive sixes, Munro to one knee and uses the pace to send it over the fine leg boundary.

4th over - Quick single from Seifert off Tom Curran's second delivery. Wide down leg for an extra. Munro whips one off his pads for the first boundary of the day... finally.

3rd over - First three balls find fielders in the inner circle. England with the clamps on. OUT - Guptill looks to pull a ball across the line but it's too full, succeeds only in chopping it down on to his stumps. Guptill b C.Curran 2(7). Seifert nabs a single off the final ball.

2nd over - Munro charges down the wicket but can't get a decent chunk on Tom Curran's delivery. Slower ball finds cover and no run. Tight lines early from the English bowlers. Curran picks the Munro charge again, puts it right into his pads for no run. Another handy one missed by Munro to finish off a rare T20 maiden.

1st over - We're underway! Sam Curran's opening ball defended back to him for no run. Leg bye and a half-hearted appeal for the first run of the day. Quick singles both ways to close the over.

Pre-match banter: Triple-century marks Devon Conway as future Blackcap

Devon Conway's international cricket call-up appears a formality, after a triple century for Wellington against Canterbury.

It was a marathon knock by the impressive South African ex-pat, but Blackcaps fans will have to bide their time.

Conway scored just the 8th triple century in first class cricket in New Zealand, after resuming the day on 261.

"When you think about it, it's such a massive total," Conway told Newshub. "Pretty happy things went my way, pretty chuffed."

Conway defied the Canterbury bowlers for over eight hours. His innings included 48 fours and five sixes.

After moving to NZ from Johannesburg in 2017, Conway has been a stand-out performer. He was the top scorer in the Plunket Shield last year and has now scored 17 first class centuries, averaging more than 44.

"We've played a lot together over the past couple of seasons," said Blackcaps' Jimmy Neesham. "He's a fantastic player, obviously."

The 28-year-old now seems a shoo-in to follow the likes of South African-born players like Neil Wagner, BJ Watling and Grant Elliott into NZ cricket when he becomes eligible next September.

"He potentially can play all three formats for the Blackcaps," said Firebirds coach Glenn Pocknall. "And that's pretty exciting looking to the future.
