New Zealand win by an innings and 65 runs - Click here for a full wrap and highlights

England 353 & 197

New Zealand 615/9 declared

There it is! The very next ball Wagner catches Broad right in front with a full toss and the test match is in the bag for NZ. Check out a full wrap here.

97th over - Wagner again. OUT - Archer couldn't resist a hook off the short ball and it's straight down the throat of deep fine leg. One more to go for the Kiwis.

Archer c Henry b Wagner 30 (50)

96th over - Santner skids one through that just misses Curran's off stump. Goes forward to the next and edges of his foot, bounces just before first slip can get there. Maiden over.

95th over - Archer lances Wagner to the fence with a cover drive.

94th over - Santner now. Tight lines but the batsmen up to the task defensively. 24 overs remaining in the test.

93rd over - Can de Grandhomme break the shackles? Not yet.

92nd over - Santner beats Archer all ends up with a ripper which somehow misses the bat. Just one off the over.

91st over - Wagner back into the attack. Curran punches one past gully for four to bring up the 50-run partnership.

90th over - Archer with a lovely straight drive for four off the final ball of the over. These two are putting up a stern resistance so far.

89th over - Curran glances for four of Santner. Nabs another with an identical shot off the final delivery.

88th over - Santner into the attack. He has his eyes on those footmarks. Archer slashes at one, goes just past the outstretched hand at first slip for four. Archer shows some sturdy technique, as he rocks onto his back foot and drives for the second boundary of the over. Archer struck on the pads on a low skidding ball from Santner. Umpires says not out but Williamson sends it for a review.....ball tracker shows it hitting leg stump, but not enough to reverse the on-field call.

87th over - Southee takes the first over after tea. Just the single from it.

The teams are back out in the middle, just two wickets needed for the New Zealanders to complete an emphatic test win.

TEA: Another great session for New Zealand, taking four wickets for 63 runs and inching closer to victory.

Santner hasn't had the impact expected, with Wagner the best of the Blackcaps bowlers, although the spinner has certainly found the pitch to his liking throughout the afternoon.

England's last hopes rest with Curran, who will want to prove his all-rounder status.

86th over - Southee's last over ordinary, so Santner is back with the ball. His second ball bounces and spins, hitting Curran on the shoulder.

Curran wants nothing to do with the next ball and pads up outside off-stump. Given not out, but Williamson reviews it and replays show Santner overstepped the bowler's mark - inexcusable.

The delivery was well wide anyway, so the Blackcaps employing a little gamesmanship perhaps.

That's tea.

85th over - Archer drives at Wagner, but Williamson's dive takes the pace off the ball and scoring is restricted to two.

He has a swish at the fifth ball, but is nowhere near it. Archer plays a similar shot at the last ball and manages to loft it to the boundary - there's a little Southee about Archer's batting approach.

84th over - Southee bounces Archer, but that's way too short and Watling has no chance of stopping that rolling into the boundary for byes.

83rd over - Curran plays Wagner off his pads for four down fine leg. He drives the last ball for another boundary, as he looks for an upgrade to his all-rounder status.

82nd over - Southee will take the new ball off Santner, bowling to Archer. It's a maiden, with Archer barely offering a shot.

81st over - Williamson has taken the new ball and tosses it to Wagner.

OUT! First ball is a perfect swinging yorker, which Buttler inexplicably leaves and watches his off-stump destroyed. That's an 18-ball duck and the tail is now well exposed.

Jos Buttler b Wagner 0 (18b) FOW 138/8

Next ball, Wagner takes Archer on the pads, but the appeal is declined and no-one seems that interested in pushing the point. Perhaps passing down legside.

Archer gets off the mark by chipping just behind square leg.

Wagner raps Curran on the pads and he's given out, but the Englishman doesn't hesitate to call for a review and it shows he clearly played onto his pads. That was an obvious miscall.

80th over - Santner will continue with the last over before the new ball. He's bowled unchanged since lunch.

Curran guides the fourth delivery fine, past the slips for four.

79th over - Wagner bowls into Curran's pads and he plays streakily down legside, narrowly avoiding a fieldsman.

Wagner's fifth ball cuts back dramatically. Buttler shoulders arms, but perhaps should have offered a defensive shot.

78th over - Santner spins his first delivery viciously out of the foot marks, Buttler plays forward, but luckily doesn't follow through with this shot.

That's another maiden, just building pressure.

77th over - OUT! Wagner bowls a wide full toss - a terrible ball - Pope tries to slap it through the offside and Santner takes a superb one-handed diving catch.

That's an important strike, because it exposes the England tail. All-rounder Curran takes his strike.

Ollie Pope c Santner b Wagner 6 (24b, 1x4) FOW 133/7

76th over - One run off Santner's next over.

75th over - Wagner pulled up a little lame in the previous over, so it will be interesting to see how he travels this time.

Denly edges the second ball, but it falls about a metre short of Taylor at second slip and rolls to the rope.

OUT! Next ball, Denly attempts to shoulder arms, but the Blackcaps appeal loudly, When they're declined, Williamson calls for a review.

Hot spot shows the ball took the glove on the way through and was caught by Watling.

Joe Denly c Watling b Wagner 35 (142b, 3x4) FOW 132/6

Wagner beats the outside edge of Buttler's bat with his first ball to the wicketkeeper.

74th over - Pope square-cuts Santner to the boundary. Time for a drinks break.

73rd over - Southee needs a break, so the ball is tossed to Wagner. Denly takes two of the first ball, but that's it.

72nd over - Pope now gets his first look at Santner, with close fielders breathing down his neck. He shoulders arms to the fifth ball and is rapped on the pad, but given not out. Williamson asks the question, but the delivery straightened to miss off-stump.

71st over - Southee's second ball raps Pope on the pads and the Blackcaps are vociferous, but it's clearly heading down legside.

Pope prods outside off-stump and scrambles through for a single to get off the mark.

70th over - England are still 141 runs behind and Denly plays out another Santner maiden.

69th over - Southee's third ball keeps a little low and Stokes loses it altogether.

OUT! Next ball from Southee is widish and Stokes cuts at it, taking an inside edge onto the stumps. That's a huge wicket, given Stokes' matchsaving heroics during the Ashes series against Australia - and, of course, the Cricket World Cup final.

Ollie Pope comes to the crease.

68th over - A single off Santner's next over.

67th over - Southee nips one back on Denly, who lets it pass. The veteran bowler is moving the ball both ways and asking some questions of the batsmen.

Denley plays through offside for two, bringing up the half-century partnership in 143 balls - slow going, but required, if England are to save this test.

66th over - Just a single off Santner.

65th over - Southee's fifth ball swings back into Stokes, who offers no shot and is surprised how close it passes to the stumps. He top-edges the last ball over and wide of Watling for four.

64th over - Denly plays out a Santner maiden.

63rd over - Matt Henry is fielding for Boult this afternoon, as Southee continues. Stokes edges his fourth ball past the slips for four.

62nd over - Santner's third ball nips back and barely beats the outside edge of Stokes' bat. Just one run from the over.

61st over - Southee bowls from the other end after lunch. His fourth ball nips back off the seam and beats Denly, through to Watling behind the stumps.

Two off the last ball to break up the maiden.

60th over - Santner to bowl the first ball after lunch to Stokes, who swats it through the close field for four.

Word is that Boult has not returned to the field and will not bowl this afternoon. Given the conditions, he was probably surplus to immediate requirements anyway.

If Lockie Ferguson is to come into the line-up for the Hamilton test, perhaps Boult will be given the chance to rest his back.

Big shout for leg before wicket on Santners last ball, but Stokes was about half metre outside off-stump.

*****

Right, New Zealand need six wickets, with bogeyman Ben Stokes looming as the immediate obstacle to their march to victory.

Williamson and Santner both limbering up on the boundary, so the 'spin twins' will obviously see more action this afternoon.

LUNCH: A rather quiet session. England go through 31 overs for 43 runs. The highlight was the Joe Root wicket. England still have a fight on their hands to keep the test alive. The Blackcaps need six wickets, with England trailing by 164 runs.

59th over - Captain Kane Williamson is having a bowl. It will be his first time bowling since he's been cleared by the ICC for his action. Hs first ball goes for three runs and the third for two. The last is a single and now it's lunch time.

58th over - England finally get some more runs on the board, but it's four byes as it spins past Stokes and beats BJ Watling and the others standing behind the wicket.

57th over - Another maiden over as Joe Denly is happy to block. He's scored 18 runs from 96 deliveries. We'll probablt sneak two more overs in before lunch.

56th over - News from the New Zealand camp, Trent Boult has a pain in his right side and will be off the field until lunch. Another quiet, maiden over. The final ball of the over though is a ripper and it goes into the back pad.

55th over - Back-to-back maidens for Wagner. His last delivery is short and clips a ducking Joe Denley on the back.

54th over - With Boult off, Mitchell Santner comes back into the attack. The Blackcaps will be hoping for one more wicket in the next 20 minutes.

53rd over - After his over, Trent Boult walks straight off the field. Is that an injury concern for New Zealand? Matt Henry is the replacement fielder. Wagner bowls a maiden for the Blackcaps. England are 86/4

52nd over - And look at that, Trent Boult comes into the attack for the first time today. Stokes hits another four through the covers to end the over.

51st over - Two runs from that Niel Wagner over. Joe Denly clips it out to deep midwicket.

50th over - And Ben Stokes in FINALLY off the mark with a four, punching theball to the cover boundary. The next deliverly deflects off Stokes and rolls past the stumps.

49th over - And as predicted Neil Wagmer comes into the attack. Ben Stokes is yet to get off the mark after 24 balls. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen Trent Boult yet.

48th over - Santner continues, into the 19th over of his spell. Round the wicket, with four men around the bat. The over ends with the spinner claiming his 11th maiden. Looks like Neil Wagner is getting ready to bowl the next over.

47th over - Joe Denly nudges the ball to square leg for a single, in what is another dull over. England are 75/4.

46th over - Ben Stokes blocks his way through the over. There was a chance for a single from the final ball, but England don't run. They don't wantt to take any risks as a draw is the best result for them right now.

45th over - Joe Denly starts the over with a four down long leg. No more runs scored in the over.

44th over - Santner to resume in the attack. Tom Latham nearly pulls off another great catch, but the ball lands just in front of him. The over ends and it's time for a drinks break.

43rd over - WICKET - The Blackcaps strike and Colin de Grandomme claims the wicket of Joe Root. The England captain hits the ball to gully and Tom Latham comes up with another stunning catch. Joe Root departs for 11 and England are 69/4. Ben Stokes comes into the attack.

J Root c Latham b de Grandhomme 11 (51b 2x4) SR: 21.56

42nd over - Another maiden to Mitchell Santner. He's got nine maidens in 16 overs.

41st over - England scrape in one run after the ball beats the fielder in the covers.

40th over - Joe Root plays a rare shot and it goes for four down the ground.

39th over - A repeat of the previous over, except it was Denly blocking de Grandhomme's deliveries.

38th over - Joe Root comfortably blocks six of Santner's deliveries. England have added eight runs today.

37th over - Colin de Grandhomme comes into the attack, replacing Tim Southee.  Nothing really happens. Joe Denly plays a couple of shots into the covers, but no runs.

36th over - Mitchell Santner bowls another maiden over. England trail by 199 runs.

35th over - England happy to just wait and take their chances when they come. Joe Root grabs a single from the last ball of the over.

34th over - Another maiden to Santner. In the third ball of the over, he nearly bowls Joe Denley, but the batsman survives.

33rd over - Tim Southee completes his second maiden of the innings. Joe Root untroubled by those six deliveries.

32nd over - Joe Root gets a four, hitting the ball through cover point. He gets a single to end the over and will be on strike to start the next over.

31st over - England finally get off the mark with two singles in the Southee over.

30th over - Santner is causing the English batsmen some problems. He completes his fifth maiden in 10 overs.

29th over - Tim Southee to bowl the next over, and it's a maiden.

28th over - Mitchell Santner has two balls to complete in this over. Joe Root is the new batsman.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the first cricket test between the Blackcaps and England at Bay Oval in Mt Maunganui.

England trail New Zealand by 207 runs heading into the final day, with seven wickets in hand.

Play will start at 11am.

On day four, the Blackcaps declared 615/9, before Mitchell Santner took three wickets to leave England reeling on 55/3.

Of course, this particular match-up has taken on greater significance this year - no so much in the test format - after the pulsating climax at the Cricket World Cup, where England pipped New Zealand on a countback of boundaries in the final.

Then, two weeks ago, the T20 series decided at Eden Park also went into extra time, with the tourists again prevailing in a 'super over'.

In the longer format, New Zealand sit poised for their 100th test victory some time this summer, currently sitting on 98, after their victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo three months ago.

The Blackcaps last beat England (by an innings and 49 runs) at Eden Park in March 2018, after dismissing their rivals for 58 runs in the first innings. Skipper Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls both scoring centuries, and Trent Boult (6/32 & 3/67) turned in a man-of-the-match performance with the ball.

Squads

New Zealand: Tom Latham, Jeet Raval, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult.
