England 39/2 (Joe Root 6*/ Rory Burns 24*)

18th over - That's over for the day, 100% the Blackcaps' day, great result for them - England are under the pump.

17th over - Mitchell to bowl.

Just the one off the over.

16th over - Wagner will bowl his first over.

Just the one off the over.

15th over - Southee to bowl.

Four runs from Root, too straight from Southee and he flicks it away for a boundary.

14th over - Another maiden over from Henry.

13th over - Another drop, this time it was far harder - Jeet Raval diving to his right and spills it - it would've been a screamer.

Root is off the mark with a drive to the off side.

12th over - Maiden over from Henry.

11th over - Southee to bowl.

Burns goes for a flash drive, he gets the inside edge and it beats Watling and goes for four.

10th over - Great over from Henry.

WICKET - Great area from Henry and he gets the edge from Denly and it carries to Watling who takes a very good catch.

Denly c Watling b Henry 4

9th over - Lovely drive from Burns, gets on the front foot - through the covers for four.

8th over - Too full from Henry and Burns gets onto it and drives it striaght for four.

DROPPED - Burns gets the edge and Taylor spills it at first slip, not a tough chance, should've been taken.

7th over - A straight ball from Southee and Sibley misses it, given out LBW.

Sibley LBW b Southee 4

Denly's first ball is flicked away for four.

6th over - Two runs down the ground for Burns, solid looking drive. Three off the over.

5th over - Southee will bowl

Just one off the over - good areas from the Kiwis here.

4th over - Henry to bowl.

Just the single off the over, Sibley into the off side.

3rd over - Short ball from Southee and Sibley leans out of the way, it didn't get up and hits Sibley in the helmet, bit of a delay here as they get Sibley a new helmet.

Lovely from Burns, to wide from Southee and he drives it through the covers for four - lovely.

2nd over - Matt Henry to bowl, one off the over - Sibley gets the single.

1st over - Tim Southee to open- maiden over.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be England's turn shortly, rain clouds look set to be in their way - I'll keep you posted.

130th over - Curran to bowl.

That's it, Wagner's first ball is a full toss and he middles it to Sibley who takes the catch.

129th over - Archer to bowl.

Archer finally gets his first of the test, a short ball is pulled away to the leg side.

Mitch Santner c Woakes b Archer 23

128th over - Woakes is back.

Lovely cover drive from Henry finds the gap and goes for four.

127th over - Archer to bowl.

Lovely shot from Santner, he gets ahold of a bad ball from Archer and flicks it away for six.

Another short ball from Archer and Santner hits it for another six - he hits the security guard in the hat and he has gone off for an HIA.

126th over - Woakes to bowl.

A short sharp bouncer from Woakes and Southee gloves it through to the keeper.

Tim Southee c Pope b Woakes 18

125th over - Archer is back. Outside edge from Santner flies through where gully would be, four runs.

124th over - Woakes continues, Five off the over - a Southee four off the first.

123rd over - Broad gets a big appeal, LBW from Santner - big shout, umpire says no, he hit it - England have no reviews left.

122nd over - Woakes to continue, Santner has a go at a short ball and top edges it, luckily it falls safe.

Late cut from Southee goes for four, lovely shot. Eight off the over.

121st over - Broad to bowl, Mitchell gets on the front dog and smashes a lovely drive through the covers, straight through the gap for four.

Mitchell falls to the trap, a short ball from Broad and he pulls it down the throat of Archer at fine leg.

Daryl Mitchell - c Archer b Broad 73

Southee finishes the over with an edge for four.

120th over - Two off the Woakes over, both to Santner.

119th over - Just two off the over.

118th over - Woakes to bowl, Mitchell flicks one away for a nice boundary, lovely shot - he looks all class on debut so far. Five off the over.

Final ball of the 117th over after twa and Santner flicks a full toss away for two, bad fielding from Stokes.

TEA - Good session for NZ to bounce back from a shaky morning. Watling produced another handy half-century but was dismissed late by a ripper of a ball for the only NZ wicket of the session. Meanwhile, Mitchell continues to impress on debut and looks rock solid out on his home turf.

117th over - Broad is up. Mitchell pulls boldly, two off it. OUT - Broad with an absolute peach that rises quickly on Watling, and he edges straight to Burns at gully. That will send us to tea.

BJ Watling - c Burns b Broad 55 (192)

116th over - Joe Root injects himself into the attack. Three runs off the over.

112th over - Watling slashes Curran past point to bring up his 18th test 50. The man can do no wrong right now.

110th over - Watling sends Curran to the fence with a lucious off-drive.

109th over - Stokes takes to the bowling crease. Textbook cover drive from Mitchell for four. Follows that with a superb pull shot for four more that brings up a half-century on debut. It's been a very assured knock so far. 100 partnership also clicks over between these two, who have dug in well after a shaky start to the day for NZ.

108th over - Watling plays one brilliantly off his pads to send Archer through midwicket for four. The big Englishman is starting to look a tad dejected.

106th over - Mitchell eases into an on drive for four off Archer. Edging towards a half century on debut.

104th over - Archer costs three runs, after Watling finds two behind square leg.

102nd over - Archer takes the ball. Maiden.

101st over - Mitchell blasts a poor ball through midwicket for four.

99th over - Stokes back into the attack.

97th over - Maidens for everyone.

95th over - Just a Mitchell single from the Curran over.

93rd over - Watling sneaks a single. Cuts through point for a boundary.

91st over - Back from lunch with full bellies. Curran takes the ball.

LUNCH - That was a long session, but the Blackcaps will be pleased with how things turned out in that one. England gained the edge early on with the two early wickets of Tom Latham (105) and Henry Nicholls (16), but BJ Watling and Daryl Mitchell have got the hosts back in the contest. They've only added 75 runs in the extended session, and rain is expected in the coming hours.

90th over - Nothing happened at all during the last couple of overs, as it's a snooze-fest right now. BJ Watling has now faced 100 balls. The over ends in a maiden and finally, finally it's lunchtime.

87th over - Sam Curran back into the attack for England. Just one run from the over. During the over, Ollie Pope got excited as Mitchell wafts outside off stump but there looked no bat involved  and the umpire agrees.

86th over - Blackcaps continue to be conservative. They don't want to lose another wicket before lunch. Two more singles in the over.

85th over - And a leg bye is what brings up the 50 partnership.

84th over - Three singles in the over.

83rd over - Mitchell adds three more runs in the over. . New Zealand are pretty comfortable at present, 30 minutes away from the lunch break.

82nd over - England appeal for the wicket of Daryl Mitchell, but the umpire doesn't raise his finger. England have no reviews left so they can't check. Replays show that it was a close ball, but the umpire did make the right call.

81st over - Another quiet  over. This current partnership is closing in on 50.

80th over - BJ Watling gets a couple more runs, he clips it away on the leg side as they take off. He ends the over with a cover drive for four. Now England will take the new ball.

79th over - Another maiden to England. We're going through another quiet patch again.

78th over - Stuart Broad comes back into the attack for England, and he bowls another maiden over.

77th over - England appeal for another wicket, but once again the umpire shakes his head, and Joe Root decides not to appeal this one.

76th over - Another steady New Zealand over, a they add four runs to their total.

75th over - BJ Watling adds two more runs  flicked through the on-side, meeting the fuller length and finding the gap. THe Blackcaps are 219/5,

74th over - A big over for Daryl Mitchell as he starts with two runs, before blasting a six over the bowlers head. The ball aparently traveled 110m which is some distance.

73rd over - Stokes looks set for another maiden over, but there are two byes from the over, as the ball bounces over Ollie Pope.

72nd over - Joe Denly is having a bowl now for England. Of course, they visitors didn't name a specialist spinner in the game. There is just one single in the over and now it's time for a drinks break.

71st over - Ben Stokes comes in for a quick spell with the ball, and he bowls a maiden. Very impressive considering many felt he wouldn't bowl at all today.

70th over - England appeal for an LBW on BJ Watling, but umpire Dharmasena shakes his head, and England call for an appeal. But there was a clear inside edge. Watling hits back with a four on the next ball.

69th over - Chris Woakes completes his third maiden of the match with six balls to Daryl Mitchell.

68th over - Another single from the over. England appeal for the new ball but i'm unsure if the umpires gave it to them or not.

67th over - Daryl Mitchell gets his first runs in a test jersey with a four, which he backs up with a single a few balls later. BJ Watling ends the over with a four, as the Blackcaps reach the 200 mark. They're 201/5.

66th over - Sam Curran backs up his wicket maiden over with a maiden. Just one run scored in the last three overs.

65th over - Just the one single to BJ Watling from the over. Daryl Mithcell faced the last two balls of the over and both deliveries were rippers. He's still waiting for his first test run.

64th over - WICKET - England have claimed their second wicket in 20 minutes as Curran claims the scalp of Henry Nicholls. The Blackcaps batsman pulls the ball straight into the air and Stuart Broad is underneath it at backward point. Daryl Mitchell comes in for the Blackcaps in his test debut.

H Nicholls c Broad b Curran 16 (48b 3x4) SR: 33.33

63rd over - Chris Woakes will bowl from the other end now, and it ends in a maiden.

62nd over - Sam Curran comes into the attack. In the fourth ball of the over,  BJ Watling survives a massive scare as he knicks the ball and it lands inches short of England keeper Ollie Pope.

61st over - Another maiden. Archer bowling some full deliveries in that over.

60th over - Another tidy over from England, which ends in a Henry Nicholls single.

59th over - England are finding their areas with the ball, as Jofra Archer completes a maiden over.

58th over - BJ Watling gets on the board with a single. Of course in the first test, he hit 205. Watling's single was the only run scored in the over.

57th over - Henry Nicholls hits double digits with a four. The Blackcaps are 186/4.

56th over - WICKET - Tom Latham has been bowled, three balls after after playing a beautiful shot  down the ground for four. Latham settles in with a nice shot, but the over ends in disaster as he leaves the ball and it hits the offiside stump.

TM Latham b Broad 105 (172b 16x4) SR: 61.04

55th over - Still three balls to complete in this over. Jofra Archer to bowl to Tom Latham. There is a leg ball, which is backed up with a Henry Nicholls four through fine leg.

10:00 am - Remember, play will begin in 30 minutes, half an hour early to make up for the downpour that wrote off the evening session.

9:30am - While it is cloudy in Hamilton at the moment, there is rain expected early in the afternoon so expect some delays on day two.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second cricket test between the Blackcaps and England at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

The Blackcaps will start day two on 173/3 with Tom Latham (101) and Henry Nicholls (five) at the crease.

Play will start at 10:30am as rain affected play on day one. Officials are hopeful of playing 98 overs a day for the remaining four days.

The Blackcaps lead the two-match series 1-0 after crushing England by an innings and 65 runs in the first test in Mt Maunganui.

New Zealand have won five and drawn one of their last six tests at Seddon Park, while Ross Taylor has made five of his 18 test hundreds at Hamilton, and is 92 runs away from scoring 1000 at the venue.

Of course, this particular match-up has taken on greater significance this year - no so much in the test format - after the pulsating climax at the Cricket World Cup, where England pipped New Zealand on a countback of boundaries in the final.

Then, three weeks ago, the T20 series decided at Eden Park also went into extra time, with the tourists again prevailing in a 'super over'.

If the Blackcaps prevail in Hamilton, it will be their  100th test victory.
