Phoenix defender Louis Fenton will miss the rest of the A-League season, after shoulder surgery.

On Monday, the club confirmed that Fenton would play no further part in their 2019/20 campaign.

Fenton sustained the injury during the 3-2 loss to Melbourne City back in Round Five, where he dislocated his shoulder, but continued to play through the rest of the match.

Phoenix head coach Ufuk Talay called it a "big blow" to his stocks.

"He'll miss the season, which is a big blow for us," said Talay. "But the main thing is we get him right, he gets his body right and he's ready for pre-season next year."

The injury is the latest setback for the 26-year-old All White, who's already dealt with a dislocated shoulder, a broken leg and a broken foot in recent years.

Tim Payne has filled in at the back in Fenton's absence, but Talay said he'd likely look for an injury replacement during the January transfer window.

Unbeaten in their past four games, the Phoenix take on the Melbourne Victory on Saturday.
