The Auckland Tuatara dropped both games of a Saturday double-header to the Melbourne Aces in a disappointing night for the Kiwi club.

In the first match, the Tuatara slumped to a 1-0 defeat, which was backed up with a 9-6 loss at Melbourne Ballpark.

Tuatara manager Steve Mintz was disappointed that his team couldn't capitalise on Jared Koenig's impressive pitching in Saturday's opener.

He yielded just four hits and two walks but got no run support from his offence, with Aces import Kodai Sano's single in the fourth proving the difference between the two sides.

In the second game, the Tuatara took an early 2-0 lead in the first on a Max Brown single which plated Jonny Homza and Josh Morgan.

But the Aces broke the game open in the fifth with four runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

A late ninth-inning rally saw the Tuatara score four runs and threaten, but it wasn't enough to snatch a late win.

The results come a day after Auckland blew a three-run lead to lose 4-3, which sees their season slump to 1-6.

The series finale takes place on Sunday afternoon.
