Cycling: New Zealand win three more medals at Hong Kong World Cup

New Zealand's cyclists have won three more medals on a memorable second day at the latest track cycling World Cup event in Hong Kong.

The Kiwis won two golds and a silver, bringing their haul to five, with one day of competition remaining.

Callum Saunders won the men's keirin and Campbell Stewart dominated the men's omnium, with Nicole Shields, and Jesse Hodges joined to finish second behind Denmark in the women's madison.

Saunders was third in his heat for both the first and second rounds of the men's keirin. He successfully advanced to the gold-medal round, where he took the victory ahead of Olympic champion Jason Kenny of Britain and current world champion Matthijs Buchli.

World champion Stewart ranked sixth in the scratch race, fourth in the tempo and then won the elimination race and the points race to secure a total of 142 points, finishing nine points ahead of Germany's Roger Kluge in second.

Denmark's duo of Julie Leth and Trine Schmidt secured 31 points to win the gold medal in the madison. They beat Kiwi duo Shields and Hodges by seven points.

The madison has been reintroduced for next year's Tokyo Olympics. The men's madison was removed from the Olympic track schedule after 2008 and has never been included in the women's programme.

The New Zealand team has so far won three golds and two silvers.

Following the conclusion of the World Cup event in Hong Kong, the series moves to Cambridge for a three-day event from December 6-8.
