[Please refresh for the latest updates]

Blackcaps 375 (Tom Latham 105, Daryl Mitchell 73, Stuart Broad 4/78)

England 476 (Joe Root 226, Rory Burns 101, Neil Wagner 5/124)

Blackcaps 96/2 (Kane Williamson 37*, Ross Taylor 31*) - Trail by 5 runs

STUMPS - The old firm of Taylor and Williamson dig in to stave off the English attack with a 68-run partnership. With the weather report looking iffy for day five, it may well have been a test-saving effort. Click here for a full wrap.

34th over - Taylor late cuts for four.

31st over - Woakes strays down leg, Pope can't collect it and the ball crashes into the fielder's helmet behind him. Gift five runs for the Blackcaps.

30th over - Classic Taylor cover drive for four off Stokes.

29th over - Williamson triple off Woakes brings up the 50 partnership between these two old pals.

28th over - Williamson ducks under another one from Stokes. Works one fine for a ingle.

26th over - Taylor cuts Stokes to the fence.

25th over - Taylor sneaks a run to midwicket.

24th over - Stokes takes the ball. No runs off his six.

23rd over - Taylor swats Curran to square leg for four.

22nd over - Stuart Broad is back - 0/14 from 4 overs. Short from Broad and Williamson pulls for four.

21st over - NZ  50 up as Williamson turns Curran on the offside for one.

20th over - Williamson drives nicely on the offside for a couple.

19th over - Sam Curran is back - 1/12 from 3 overs. Maiden from Curran to Williamson.

18th over - Archer will continue .... he looks in the mood to bowl quick. Archer has Williamson avoiding a well directed bouncer.

Drinks

17th over - Another maiden from Woakes - he has 1/2 from 5 overs.

16th over - Archer really picking up his pace now has Williamson in a bit of discomfort.

15th over - A Kane Williamson single from the over.

14th over - Archer draws Williamson forward ... the ball moves away from the surface and he plays a poor shot but doesn't get the edge. Shorter from Archer and Williamson guides through gully for four.

13th over - Testing maiden over from Woakes to Taylor.

12th over - Three from the Jofra Archer over.

11th over - Taylor off the mark with a single around the corner.

10th over - Williamson cuts square on the offside for four.

9th over - WICKET: Chris Woakes replaces Broad. Latham is gone .... Didn't need to play that one outside off ... he can only edge the ball to Root at 1st slip. NZ in trouble.
Tom Latham c Root b Woakes 18 (29) 2x4's FOW 28

8th over - Jofra Archer replaces Curran. Two from the over.

7th over - Latham has a couple through midwicket and then a couple more through point on the offside. Over-pitched from Broad and Latham hits him through midwicket for four.

6th over - Latham finds a gap through point and will have a well run three.

5th over - Maiden from Broad to Williamson.

4th over - Williamson rocks onto the back foot and punches for two through point.

3rd over - Latham has four through the covers.

2nd over - WICKET: Sam Curran will open up from the other end. Raval is caught in front and the umpire raises his finger. Raval doesn't review but he should have .... he edged it onto his pads ... a big edge too. Wow. That could be the end of his career.
Williamson off the mark with four to third man.
Jeet Raval lbw Curran 0 (1) FOW 2

1st over - Stuart Broad will open up ... Latham on strike. Oh my gosh! Raval is almost run out without facing a ball. Not a great call from Latham but Raval took an age to get going ... luckily for him, Crawley missed a shot at all three.

New Zealand innings

Innings break - England lead by 101 and are the only team that can win from this point. Their aim will be to have NZ three down at stumps - anything more than that would be a bonus. If the Blackcaps can bat the session out unscathed they should have done enough to save the match and win the series.

Tea

163rd over - WICKET: Wagner over-pitches and Archer slams him over long-off for six. Archer goes for another big swing but he can only edge the ball back onto his stumps. Wagner has five! He bowls Broad with a slow yorker.
Jofra Archer b Wagner 8 (12) 1x6 FOW 476
Stuart Broad b Wagner 0 (3) FOW 476

162nd over - Tim Southee back - 2/84 from 36. Curran flat bats through the covers for four.

161st over - Just a couple off the over.

160th over - Three runs from the over.

159th over - WICKET: Woakes drives a full wide ball from Wagner but he can only edge the ball through to Watling behind the stumps.
Chris Woakes c Watling b Wagner 0 (2) FOW 460

158th over - WICKET: Root on the chase for runs has thrown his wicket away .... he comes down the wicket but Santner throws it wide - Root goes over cover but can't get enough on it and Nicholls comes in off the boundary to take the catch.
Joe Root c Nicholls b Santner 226 (442) 22x4's 1x6 FOW 458

157th over - WICKET: Pope hooks a wide short ball but can only top edge straight to Raval on the square leg boundary.
Ollie Pope c Raval b Wagner 75 (202) 6x4's FOW 455

156th over - 450 up for England as they take Santner for five from the over.

155th over - Pope straight pulls for four down the ground.

154th over - Two runs from the over.

Drinks

153rd over - Neil Wagner is back .... 1/97 from 30. Root pulls from wide outside off but can only spoon the ball over Wagner's head but Williamson can't run around in time to take the catch.

152nd over - Santner is back - 0/74 from 30 overs. Two runs from the over.

151st over - Root hits the switch and smashes Henry over his head for six. Eight runs from the over.

150th over - Slower ball but it's short and wide from Mitchell and Pope square cuts for four.

149th over - Matt Henry back - 1/78 from 31. Root drops on the offside .... there is hesitation but they both set off and Pope gets home. 200 for Root. Pope was a yard out if Latham had hit the stumps.

148th over - Four runs from the over .... 150 partnership up ... Root a run away from 200.

147th over - Three from the over.

146th over - Daryl Mitchell replaces Santner - 0/50 from 19 overs. England 400 up but it's a lucky escape for Root as he almost chops on - ball just trickles past his leg stump and away for a couple. Lovely shot from Root splits the two gully's and down to the fence for four.

145th over - Three runs for Root from the over as he closes in on a double ton.

144th over - Five singles from the Santner over.

143rd over - Four singles from the over.

142nd over - Three runs from the over and Pope also brings up his 1st test match fifty from  165 balls with 4 fours.

141st over - Ollie Pope gets a single from the final ball of the over.

140th over - Mitchell Santner to bowl - 0/64 from 27 overs. Two singles from the over.

139th over - Tim Southee will open up for the Blackcaps - 2/75 from 32 overs. Just a single from the over.

Afternoon session

LUNCH: A great session by England. On top of losing no wickets, they also took the lead just before the break, even though it took them 137 overs.

The current partnership between Joe Root and Ollie Pope is at 117 runs, as it looks even more likely the match will end in a draw.

Root is getting closer to a double century, while Pope is closing in on a first test 50. The second session will start at 1:40 pm.

138th over - Just two runs for Santner's over and now it is lunch time, after a dominant England session.

137th over - There it is. A four to Pope sees England take the lead for the first time. One more over before the lunch break.

136th over - A couple more singles and England will likely go past the Blackcaps by lunch.

135th over - In some good news for English fans. Spinner Jack Leach is expected to be discharged from hospital today following a bout of gastroenteritis. He's been in hospital since Saturday. Back on the field, just one run scored in the over.

134th over - Two more singles in the over, which sees England edge closer and closer to the Blackcaps.

133rd over - Daryl Mitchell back into the attack for the hosts. He's still searching for his first test wicket. Four runs scored in the over and with 15 minutes left before lunch, England trail by seven runs.

132nd over - As I type that, England score 10 runs in the over. Joe Root finds a gap in the field as the ball goes past third man. Later on, the England captain gets a top edge on that and it goes high but finds a space between deep mid-wicket and mid-on in which to drop. Root ends the over with another four, which brings up the 100-run partnership with Root.

131st over - The runs have really dried up now. Some good bowling from New Zealand, Henry and now Santner keeping things tight for the Blackcaps.

130th over - Santner looks set for his fifth maiden over, but England get another single from the final ball of the over. The Blackcaps look desperate for a wicket here.

129th over - Again, just one single from the over. Roughly 30 minutes before lunch.

128th over - A single from the final ball of the over. England are quickly closing in on New Zealand's target, now only 25 behind.

127th over - A four behind backward point to Pope sees him pass the mark with the parnership now at 84 runs and England at 349/5,

126th over - Pope reaches 29 runs, which matches his best figures in a test match. Three singles from Santner's over, two for Root and one for Pope.

125th over - Three more runs in the over. Henry continues to bowl a tight line, but the Blackcaps can't get a wicket they desire.

124th over - Root just keeps going and he adds another four. England are now trailing by just 38.

123rd over - Matt Henry back into the attack and he starts with a maiden over.

122nd over - Joe Root brings up his 150 with a single. He's faced 335 balls to reach the mark.

121st over - Pope carves the last ball of the over past backward point for four. He's scored 23 runs from 93 balls. England are now within 50 of the Blackcaps.

120th over - Joe Root is getting very close to 150. He hits his 18th four of the innings, as he turns it away sharply and very fine, all the way through fine leg at speed

119th over - Root and Pope bring up the 50-run partnership with a single to the English captain.

118th over - Just one from the over and now it's time for drinks. England are 311/5, trailing the Blackcaps by 64 runs.

117th over - More good areas from Neil Wagner. He goes real close from getting rid of Root. The England skipper hits an inside edge but this one deflects off Root's boot and is ridiculously close to crashing into leg stump.

116th over - Mitchell bowls his fourth maiden over of the day. He's looking good in his debut. England are 309/5.

115th over - Wagner back into the attack after a short break. A couple of singles come from the over.

114th over - Dary Mitchell into the attack. A stroke of luck for Ollie Pope as he tries to cut Mitchell, but it just past his off stump fo four.

113th over - Mitch Santner into the attack for the first time today. Root adds another single to his total.

112th over - Pope drives but gets an inside edge that runs away through backward square leg, which brings up 300 for England.

111th over - Great shot from Root, as he slaps it through midwicket to the fence. He's currently unbeaten on 133, his highest test score of the year.

110th over - Wagner continues around the wicket and after Pope nudges a single to leg, Root adds another boundary with an uppercut over Watling.

109th over - Ross Taylor looks a tad bored standing a slip. He might not be, i'm just guessing. Kane Williamson should mix things up and let him bowl, and before you go crazy, he's bowled before in test cricket - but not since 2013. He took two wickets against India in 2010. Back to the action, the first boundary off the bat this morning comes as Root runs the ball down to third man.

108th over - As predicted, Wagner comes into the attack for the first time today. Root gets another single down fine leg, bringing his score upto 120.

107th over - Neil Wagner is begining to warm up, indicating he'll have a bowl soon. During the over, just one single scored by Root.

106th over - Root drops the ball into the offside and gets through for one. The only run scored in the over.

105th over - A maiden over for Southee. A shout for LWB on the last ball of the over, but I think that's more a sign that the Blackcaps are desperate.

104th over - Two more singles in the over. England now trail the Blackcaps' first innings total by 93 runs. They're 282/5.

103rd over - An interesting over from both teams as the cracks in the pitch play their part. Southee pitches one on a length and skips across the ground. The next ball stays a beats BJ Watling and runs away for four byes.

102nd over - Two more to the England total as Pope lifts the ball into the legside off Henry. The Blackcaps fielder reaches the ball before it gets to the rope.

101st over - First full over the day is completed by Tim Southee. Joe Root gets his day started with a single, punched square and out to deep point for one. From the last ball, Pope works the ball to long leg for a single.

100th over - England still has two more balls to face this over. Ollie Pope guides the first of them backward of point for a couple.

10:00 am - Day three finished early due to some afternoon showers, and luckily the forecast says they should stay away today. However that won't be the case tomorrow with it set to rain for most of the day.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second cricket test between the Blackcaps and England at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

England will start day four on 269/5 after batting the entire day on Sunday. The visitors trail New Zealand by 106 runs with five wickets in hand.

Play will start at 10:30am as rain affected play on day one. Officials are hopeful of playing 98 overs a day for the remaining two days.

The Blackcaps lead the two-match series 1-0 after crushing England by an innings and 65 runs in the first test in Mt Maunganui.

New Zealand have won five and drawn one of their last six tests at Seddon Park, while Ross Taylor has made five of his 18 test hundreds at Hamilton, and is 92 runs away from scoring 1000 at the venue.

Of course, this particular match-up has taken on greater significance this year - no so much in the test format - after the pulsating climax at the Cricket World Cup, where England pipped New Zealand on a countback of boundaries in the final.

Then, three weeks ago, the T20 series decided at Eden Park also went into extra time, with the tourists again prevailing in a 'super over'.

If the Blackcaps prevail in Hamilton, it will be their  100th test victory.
