Rugby: John Plumtree confirmed as All Blacks assistant coach

New All Blacks coach Ian Foster has confirmed three of his four-strong team to take over from Steve Hansen, announcing the bulk of his coaching group on Thursday.

Foster will be joined by Hurricanes coach John Plumtree and ex-Ireland scrum coach Greg Feek in his new coaching set-up, while defence coach Scott McLeod returns, after working under previous coach Steve Hansen.

The assistant coaches have been appointed for a two-year period. One more coach - expected to be former Crusaders assistant Brad Mooar -  will be announced in due course.

"I'm delighted to confirm three of the four other coaches who'll make up our coaching team," Foster said.

"They're all outstanding coaches in their own right, and we'll have new voices and fresh ideas in the All Blacks, which will be really stimulating for everyone and help us grow, as we enter a new era."

Plumtree assumes the role of forwards coach, while former All Blacks prop Feek will continue as scrum coach.

All Blacks legend Grant Fox will continue as a selector for the 2020 season, alongside Foster and Plumtree.

With Plumtree joining the All Blacks coaching ranks, Jason Holland has been promoted to Hurricanes head coach, where he'll be assisted by Wellington Lions coach Chris Gibbes.

"I'm delighted to be offered the opportunity with a team I am really passionate about," Holland said.

"We are obviously thrilled for 'Plum' [Plumtree], who has deservedly been afforded an opportunity with the All Blacks, and we have been working hard over the last few weeks to make the transition seamless for the squad who are thrilled for him, as well."

Cory Jane will also join the Hurricanes as defence coach on an initial two-year contract.

Meanwhile, Mooar is expected to be confirmed as the other assistant, as negotiations continue between Scarlets and NZ Rugby.

Mooar is four months into his three-year contract with the Llanelli-based side, after replacing new Wales boss Wayne Pivac.

The former Crusaders assistant admits he's "torn" over leaving Wales to return to New Zealand, with Scarlets reportedly wanting $400,000 in compensation, according to a Welsh news report.
