ANBL: NZ Breakers cling to fading playoffs hopes

Despite needing five wins from their last seven games of the regular season, the NZ Breakers refuse to concede they're out of contention for the NBL playoffs.

Their quest resumes Thursday night against the table-topping Sydney Kings, but they're undaunted by the challenge.

"We're definitely still a chance," said guard Scotty Hopson. "I learned this from Jeff Van Gundy, when I was getting coached by him with the USA national team.

"We have to show them the ultimate respect by showing them no respect, which means go into that game and attack them, as they would attack us."

Hopson has done his fair share of that this season, as he leads the side in both scoring and assists.

His impact was sorely missed, while he was sidelined with a knee injury, when the Breakers proceeded to lose six out of seven games to put their campaign on the ropes.

The American import returned to be hugely influential in their recent five-game win streak to keep their playoff hopes alive.
