Kiwi sprint sensation Edward Osei-Nketia won the 100m at the Cooks Classic in Whanganui on Saturday night.

The 18-year-old won the race in 10.62s, beating out five-time New Zealand champ Joseph Millar, who finished second in a time of 10.72s, while Cody Wilson was third with a time of 10.77s.

Osei-Nketia's time was enough to break a Cooks junior record, but he still trails his father Gus Nketia - who set the overall senior record of 10.49s almost 20 years ago.

It was the first time Osei-Nketia and Millar had competed against each other since the Oceania Championships last June which Osei-Nketia won in 10.43s, with Millar third in 10.82s.

Osei-Nketia and his Sports Heritage Team also claimed victory in the mile medley relay in 3m, 33.48s.

Teams were aiming to beat the 1919 world record of 3m, 30.6s set by the NZ Army Team in England.
