Stuart Broad has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for swearing at South African captain Faf Du Plessis

The incident occured during the final day of England's fourth test victory and 3-1 series win in Johannesburg.

Broad was involved in a tetchy exchange with the Proteas skipper during the fourth afternoon, deemed to have gone too far by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Joel Wilson.

Du Plessis was clearly angered and his shoulder made contact with Jos Buttler, as he advanced in Broad's direction, although no charges had yet been levelled at him.

Broad was penalised under article 2.3 of the ICC's code of conduct, relating to "use of an audible obscenity during an international match".

Buttler and Vernon Philander have previously been sanctioned for similar offences, after exchanging abuse on the field in the four-test series.

Broad has two demerit points on his record, with four points in a two-year period enough to activate a ban.
