Horse Racing: Opie Bosson creates history at Ellerslie Racecourse

The King of the Karaka Million has reigned supreme at Ellerslie Racecourse.

Opie Bosson has claimed his fourth-straight Karaka Million, riding Cool Aza Beel ($8.20) to victory.

He beat James McDonald, who was riding favourite Play That Song ($1.20), while Taroni ($2.70) was third.

Not only is it Bosson's fourth straight, but Te Akau Racing has also claimed four in a row, with Melody Belle, Avantage and Probabeel claimed the last three for the stable.

"He [Cool Aza Beel] jumped good and put himself there,"  Bosson said after the race. "This little fella pinned his ears back and had a crack."

Trainer Jamie Richards said: "[I] Always had a lot of faith in this horse, he's done it well.

"We'd been really happy with him during the week."

Richards said about Bosson: "He's a freak and when he's in the zone, he's very hard to get past."

He then rode Probabeel ($1.60) into the history books in the Karaka Million 3YO Classic, she became the first horse to win both the two-year-old and three-year-old races in back-to-back years.
