Pre-match chat:Kane Williamson open to conceding Blackcaps captaincy

Kane Williamson has admitted that he's open to reassessing his captaincy of the Blackcaps if it were in the best interest of the team.

The 29-year-old - who's come under fire following the disastrous tour of Australia - said he'd be open to sharing the captaincy across all three formats.

"If those discussions are to eventuate and collectively there's a thought that it would be best for the team," said Williamson. "Then my stance is whatever is right and fits the group."

While Williamson has long led the way with the bat, his captaincy has faced increased scrutiny.

"The leadership thing is a collective approach but without a doubt there are a number of challenges that come with that period of time that you've been in the job."

Any further discussions won't happen until after the New Zealand summer has wrapped up.

India captain Virat Kohli dismissed any such suggestions and was quick to back him for the job.

"I don't think it's fair to put pressure on him," said Kohli "It's only fair that he's given space to figure out himself whether he wants to continue, or whether he wants someone fresh to take over.

The captaincy is about more than just results, said Kohli.

"It's also how about you get the team together and get the guys functioning under you as well, which I think Kane has done wonderfully well. He has the respect of his teammates and the trust of his teammates."

A win over cricket's powerhouses may go a long way to answering the lingering questions over Williamson's captaincy.
