Super Rugby 2020: New-look Crusaders unleashed by coach Scott Robertson

The Crusaders will begin their Super Rugby title defence with a few fresh faces, as they move on from the loss of several All Blacks stars.

The three-time defending champions have seen the last of Ryan Crotty, Matt Todd, Owen Franks and Kieran Read, while skipper Sam Whitelock is on a season-long sabbatical.

But coach Scott Robertson has still been able to name a strong side for their opener against the Waratahs in Christchurch on Saturday.

All Blacks Scott Barrett, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue and Braydon Ennor all feature in the starting line-up, while Robertson can also call on internationals Codie Taylor, Luke Romano, Brett Cameron and Sevu Reece from the bench.

Three-test All Black David Havili will wear the No.15 jersey, with two exciting prospects filling the wing spots.

Tasman flyer Will Jordan starts on the right wing, with new one-game Crusader Leicester Faingaanuku on the left. The New Zealand under-20 international starred for Tasman in their successful Mitre 10 Cup campaign.

Up front, Mitchell Dunshea partners Barrett in the second row, while the loose-forward trio features the debut of openside Tom Christie, who partners Tom Sanders and No.8 Whetu Douglas.
