Fast bowler Neil Wagner has been ruled out of the first test against India, as he awaits the birth of his first child.
Matt Henry has been called into the Blackcaps test squad as cover and will join the team in Wellington, as they prepare for the series opener at the Basin Reserve.
Wagner - one of the few bright spots in the 3-0 test series defeat in Australia - has remained at home in Tauranga, where wife Lana has yet to go into labour.
Henry played the final test of that tour at the Syndey Cricket Ground, but wasn't originally selected for the home series against the touring Indians.
Instead, Auckland's Kyle Jamieson was favoured by the selectors and seems the likely choice to make his test debut in Wagner's place.
The first test against India starts Friday.
