New Zealand will be out to extend a more than half-century long record, when they take on India in the first cricket test on Friday.

India haven't won at the Basin Reserve since 1968 and the Blackcaps have a major weapon back, as they look to build on their 3-0 one-day series win.

With the Australian series defeat still stinging, Trent Boult is determined to make amends.

"It's going to be good to see where we are at as a team and if we can bounce back," says Boult.

As if being hammered 3-0 in their last test series wasn't bad enough, Boult also broke a bone in his right hand. Diagnosed as a four-week recovery, it dragged out to nearly seven.

"It was a tough tour in Australia, to be honest," he says. "I'm sure the guys are excited to be home… where we play some pretty good cricket."
