Boxing: NRL great Paul Gallen reportedly eyes superlight with UFC veteran Mark Hunt

Rugby league star-turned boxer Paul Gallen is reportedly eying a fight with Kiwi UFC pioneer Mark Hunt.

Kiwi-born Hunt hasn't fought since his final UFC bout in December 2018 and at 45, he seemingly headed off into retirement.

But according to The Daily Telegraph, boxing promoter Matt Rose is eager to lure the 'Super Samoan' back into combat to face Gallen in a cross-discipline superfight.

No Limit Boxing Promotions is understood to have been negotiating with Hunt and his team for at least a month. and if a deal is done, it would be one of the biggest events in Australian combat-sports history.

Despite his New Zealand roots, Hunt has a cult following in Australia, after living there for more than half his life. Hunt was revered by UFC fans, fighting 18 times in an eight-year stint and scoring seven knockouts along the way.

Gallen is an NRL great, a winning State of Origin captain and premiership winner with the Cronulla Sharks. The 38-year-old also has more pro-boxing experience than the mixed martial arts legend.

Gallen is undefeated in 10 professional fights, including a stoppage win over John Hopoate last February.
