Super Bowl 2020: Patrick Mahomes leads Kansas City Chiefs past San Francisco 49ers

Patrick Mahomes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to a 31-20 comeback win over the San Franciso 49ers at Super Bowl 54 in Miami.

The 49ers led 20-10 with six minutes to go, but quarterback Mahomes and his team refused to be beaten.

Mahomes connected with a touchdown pass to tightend Travis Kelce and took the lead with another short pass to running back Damien Williams for a touchdown.

Williams sealed the game with one minute to go, when he ran 38 yards for the Chiefs' third touchdown of the quarter.

The Chiefs started the game strongly, with Mahomes running in the game's first touchdown after a 75 yard drive.

The 49ers struck back towards the end of the second quarter, as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo rolled out to connect with Kyle Juszczyk and square the scores at the break.

After Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's halftime spectacle, the 49ers came out blazing in the third quarter, establishing their highly vaunted run game to excellent effect.

With three minutes to play in the quarter, Raheem Mostert drove over from a yard out to put San Francisco up 10 points.

That set the stage for another trademark comeback for Mahomes, who pulled the strings of a stunning 21-point unanswered run to seal Kansas City's first Super Bowl in 50 years.

The third-year phenom was awarded the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award, to add to the regular season MVP he won last year.

The win also gave veteran Chiefs playcaller Andy Reid his first Super Bowl triumph as a head coach.
