New Zealand completed a spectacular turnaround in fortune on Monday, stunning India for the second straight-test to rise to No.2 in the world.
Their seven-wicket win also resurrected their world test championship campaign, after the disasters of Australia.
"Outstanding," assessed Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson. "I don't think the end result reflected how tight that match was.
"As we know, there's a fine line. India are a world class side - top of the comp - so a great effort from the guys."
Williamson's team handed India their first test-series sweep since 2012.
"We were completely outplayed in the series," said India captain Virat Kohli. "We obviously did not play the kind of cricket that we do play as a team.
"When you sit down and look back at this series, you have to give credit to the New Zealand bowlers… you have to play extravagant shots to get runs.
"It was a combination of us not quite having the right execution and New Zealand playing really well in their conditions."
Senior NZ bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult wrapped up the Indian second innings within the first hour of play on day three.
Set 132 for victory, Jasprit Bumrah - in particular - had the New Zealand openers at sixes and sevens in a testing hour before lunch.
Openers Tom Latham (52) and Tom Blundell (55) did most of the work, before falling to Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah respectively.
Henry Nicholls hit the winning run, as New Zealand drove home a dominance that was only briefly challenged in the series, as India succumbed to their first two defeats in the world test championship.
The Blackcaps focus now shifts to a one-day series in Australia, but right now, they'll celebrate their first ever clean sweep against a No.1 test team in the world.
